Help Help Help RF Cables!!
Please be gentle with me..... I am a feeble woman who is having terrible problems with the linkage (if that's a word) of my TV, Sky+, DVD recorder, VCR and amplifier (for 3 other tvs).
Had sky+ for years..... broke down last week, sky engineers came today to install new box. Fixed everything up nicely, except that they used an old booster box I had lying around my living room to get the TVs in other rooms working. I told them it wasn't part of the "set-up" but they insisted on using it. We are trying to cut down on spaghetti behind TV so in a temper after they left, I unplugged the booster and relevant RF cables and now can't get them to go anywhere that makes them work!!! Have searched internet since 6pm for diagram of which wire goes where (used to have one that the engineer who fitted amp in loft left, but can't find)but to no avail so now severely p****d off that i've wasted a whole evening and still no further forward. Any help PLEEEAAASE. x Karen |

so your sky box was working ok when they left. its just a case of re plumbing ? how many outputs on the distribution amp and i take it is plugged in ? any lights or indicators on that booster box ?

hiya, can I get a better understanding of what you're trying to achieve by asking a few questions?
Is your sky / vcr / dvd set up working ok on your main TV? it is probably connected via scart leads? did you used to be able to view sky on the other TV's in the house? do you know if the signal from the sky box is carried up to the loft and then distributed to all the other TVs from there? |

no such luck.... still here - hope you haven't all gone to bed now. Just been curled up behind tv, trying and trying.
Yes, it did work when engineers left, but with additional peice of equipment, mains cable etc and i'm trying to reduce, not increase. Was working fine as well until sky+ box died. Yes, it is just a case of re-plumbing. What I've got........ outside aerial going into Sky+ RF1 RF 2 sky, going to RFin DVD Other RF2 Sky+ going to amp/splitter/whatever its called in loft. RF out DVD to back of main TV Currently, TV works fine, DVd picks up 1-5 terrestrial, but not Sky and Other tvs get horrendous pictures and no sky. Hope this makes sense to any experts Thanks again. Won't go away this time, waiting with baited breath! Karen |

Karen then.... a wire should connect "RF 1" to the dvdR and the RF2 should go up a wire to the amplifier in the loft....which should connect to all your other TV's. the DVD should really be connected via SCART to the scart socket. (thats if you want to record from sky to dvd) |

OK,
SKY+ Box has an "Aerial in" and then 2 x RF2 out. Aerial is in aerial in and RF 2 is connected to DVD in (you say this should be RF1 to DVD? - can't see an RF1! |

I hope that made sense?!? |

it makes pefect sense, but doesn't work!!
RF2 going to loft/amp cable for other TVs that still don't get good pics or sky. You know how you can rewind live TV? wish you could do that with real life! At this point would be willing to live with the additional cables of booster box if I thought it would work, but can't remember how he had them. |

i've got everything just as its shown in diagram, but still no good. main tv is working fine, cept you can't get a sky picture through dvd even though scarts all connected.
could it be dodgy scarts? But that wouldn't affect other TVs and they're still not getting good pictures. have checked all connections on cables and all seem in good order. Baffled! |

Baffled! youre right - even if it was a dodgy scart, it wouldnt affect all your other TV's, they are connected by RF and not scart. can you get up to your loft and make sure all the connections are still in place on the amp? and that its getting power etc? (although if this was all working after the technician bloke left, i cant see how amp wouldve been affected) also - prehaps try unplugging the sky+ box at the mains and re-booting it (a long shot I know) but if the sky box isnt recieving power it dosent pass on the aerial signal to any of the tv's. |

Could the new sky box be outputting on a different RF channel number? This requiring the TVs connected by the the RF feed to be retuned perhaps?
