40" Plasma - Pannie or Samsung

Right, no idea about this, as was not planning on getting a new tv..............but my 37"SD widescreen (it has a great picture too, better than a lot of LCD and plasmas I have seen showing SD, thus not upgraded it yet) just turned off by itself 3 times this evening and I think it is about to die!!

From briefly reading through this forum these seem to be the makes to go for...unless someone thinks overwise?

What are the main things that I should look for?

Any recomendations?

At the moment no budget, as mentioned above was not planning on getting a new box, but I think my hand is about to be forced!

i have just got the Panasonic TX37LZD80

running SD stuff looks very good, much better than my brothers 32" Samsung, in my view Panasonic seems to be better than Samsung, i know people will argue that but IMO Pana wins

I chose the Samsung PS42C7HDX (which is now a PS42Q97HDX) after looking at customers tv's for a month or so.

I chose it because it gave the best SD picture and is rated as a very close, CRT like picture. You can read the review of it here.

http://www.hdtvorg.co.uk/reviews/pla...ps42q97hdx.htm

but theres a lot to read and the basic conclusion reads

Conclusion

The Samsung PS42Q97HDX is the most accomplished 42in Plasma we have come across for the price. Not only is it a superb HD performer, the SD performance is more than a pleasant surprise with performance that does not quite match a CRT but comes close.

Cheapest I have found to date is at Co-op electricals online @ £668 with free delivery.
