Hello,

I'm looking for a cheap PVR for the folks and think one of the Vestel T816 clones would be a good choice. I can find the Digihome DTR0207 for £84.99 at Currys but I belive this is a T810 box which will not perform true dual recording without the firmware fudge. Does anyone perhaps know where I can find the cheapest T816 based box that will do true dual recording straight out of the box please? A box with just an 80Gb disk would be fine.

Many thanks in advance!

Asda are selling some boxes for £65. I am not sure if they are T825 or T816

Well each to their own but I am always puzzled by people's reluctance to "fudge" twin recording on their boxes.

The whole point of these boxes is to record. To double the recording capability is surely the biggest upgrade that can be made. This is especially true considering you believe that the original hard drive is big enough and the "fudge" is free (and reversible)!

I understand the downside, a slightly limited EPG - so what? If the recorder came "out of the box" with a 4 day EPG but twin record would you buy it for £65?

Hgt this is not meant as a rant as your point of view is of course valid and not unique but the people I know who have flashed the twin record firmware are very happy indeed with it.

The £65 PVRs I saw in Asda recently were 80GB T816s. I doubt anyone is selling T825s new for £65. Tesco had some T816s with 3.7 software but they were around £100.

I think as a general rule for Vestel PVRs if the model number includes the letters DTR then it will be a T816 or T825 and if it has the letters PVR then it will be a T810.

Except if it's a DTR0207. Then it will be a T810 based box.
