Have a voucher for money off a meal at the Slug and Lettuce, which I may use today.

Does anyone know what the menu is like?

Is it quite cheap? What would you recommend?

I have never eaten in one, but you can download a menu here, and get an idea of prices.

It's quite expensive for pub food, but everytime I've eaten there the food has been really, really good, far better than you get in most pubs.

The food is likely to be similar to most chain pubs in that its made at a factory and warmed up on site.

It may be made elsewhere and warmed up, but it's a hell of a lot better than most chain pubs.

This has put me off getting steaks at the lower priced chain pubs!

I haven't been to a Slug and Lettuce for years, so can't comment on the food. I guess it is similar to All Bar One?

exactly, they taste better than many others, and even ready meals from supermarkets. Definitely one of the higher quality pub chain food.

But yes miles behind a good real restuarant, but thats not what they are. Also i mentioned burgers, its leagues ahead of macdonalds!

Note, i'm talking burgers here, we all know thats ground up "meat". I would never ever waste my money on a steak of any kind in such an establishment. They could just never do it justice.

To be honest though, is there really any point on going out to eat at somewhere which can't serve up better quality food than supermarket ready meals? You might as well save your cash, and eat a similar microwave meal at home!

It depends. Especially as ready meals are improving, and social eating isn't about just absorbing nutrients. Just look at my macdonalds example. Is there anywhere you could actually buy a ready meal burger that is worst than macdonalds i dont think so. I think that is the bottom of the ladder.

So your bolded bit, macdonalds have customers, so there must be.

Actually, I had a Rib Eye steak at one last year (someone else was paying) and it was very nice, cooked perfectly medium rare as requested.
