DWTS pro for Strictly?
Has anyone else heard that Brian Fortuna (DWTS series 4) might be on SCD this year? Apparently Tony Dovolani was asked if Brian would be back on DWTS he replied that he thought he had been booked for the British version, but wasn't sure.
Sorry if this is old news, but I've only just read it. |

Interesting.. I havent heard anything. I wonder if it's Strictly he's been booked for, or the new show on Living? I can't imagine him being picked before other more accomplished dancers

There's a show starting on living soon about losing weight. Each person has a professional dancer to help them tone up and lose weight............ I believe. Matthew Cutler will be involved in it |

Thank for the link, FT. Hmmm!
Maybe Brian auditioned for the show and that's what Tony was referring to. Much as I enjoy our pro's, I think it would be interesting to mix them up a little and maybe send some of ours to the US, too. I'm sure they'd cope with the change between Standard and Smooth for most of the dances. |

I'd love to see the look on their faces if they got a full on scathing Craig review and a mark of 2! Another thing would be the reaction of any US male dancers to Arlene in total lust mode. (imagine a vomit smiley here!) Meanwhile UK dancers in the US show would be beside themselves at the multitude of 9's and 10's. It would certainly make for interesting TV.

Oh, I'm sure that the US pro's would handle it just fine. After all, they will have had criticism all through their dancing careers, so are probably used to it.

I would love to see some of the US pros on Strictly, but I can't see it happening unless they are dropped from dwts first, if only because US has 2 series a year, and pays more!!
But dwts pros are rotated, and can be put on 'hold' - last series Louis van Amstel didn't have a partner, but was only used in the pro dances and as a choreographer. It was said officially that they have more pros than they need at any one time, but apparently the real reason was he treated his previous partner too harshly........... Brendon take note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for the Strictly pros going on dwts: I think they would find it very difficult. Partly because most of them cannot dance the Smooth dances, which always used; also dwts priority is performance and show, which the Brits find so hard. |

Brian Fortuna will be joining the new season of SCD.
He is quite a good dancer and both is parents were ballroom dancers. His mum, Sandra Fortuna, started the successful wheelchair ballroom dancing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuxiR3CTSyc Here's a link to Brian's website to learn a bit more about him: http://www.brianfortuna.com/home.htm. Personally, I don't have any fears about the US pros being able to make the switch to UK expectations. Many of them have trained in England or with a British coach at one time or another in their careers. |

Well, even if he is in this year's SCD (presumably paired with Kristina Rihanoff as a pro couple if the rumours are true that she's appearing too), unless they are paired with a really exciting celeb each, they'll probably get knocked out in the first couple of weeks as the majority of the British public won't know them! And it's got to the stage in the UK where the pros are gathering almost as many votes as the celebs from the public (IMHO).

![]() She's a brilliant dancer and a very talented teacher and choreographer. She's ranked Top 12 in the world and has competed at Blackpool several times; placing 2nd in 2004 and was a Latin semi-finalist in 2007. She was a dancer with the DWTS Tour last winter and was in almost every performance! She danced with Mark Ballas and Derek Hough a lot during the tour. Here's her myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/kristinarihanoff. She's a lovely, gracious, and talented person and I hope you all will like her performances as much as I do. I'm in Canada, so voting on the show will be tricky. Maybe they'll bring in online voting this season? *fingers crossed* |

I just don't see Brian on SCD - the US style I just dont think will transfer over nor do I want to see it on SCD there are so many talented professionals over here without importing any from DWTS. Am going to have words with a few contacts over the weekend and see if I can find anything out

Hope you can find something out Bren. It all seems to be up in the air at the moment. I really can't see Brian on the show and to be honest, I can't see Kristina either unless, as you say, they are going to pair her with one of our pros. My first thought was that maybe Karen wouldn't be taking part and they'd put her with Brendan but there's no guarantee that Brendan will be taking part anyway, and now that it appears Nicole has been excluded - well..... Words fail me!

My own view is that maybe there will be two US pros who in the pro dances will dance together....Brendan may not want to come back because he is currently loved up (not a logical dancing reason but my gut instinct), therefore leaving Karen Hardy without a pro partner to dance with........they may put her with Matt Cutler because since they are the ones doing the Diet on the Dance Floor show this summer, she and Matt Cutler will be in the public eye in relation to this show.........any public who are not yet SCD fans may associate them together and want to see them dance as pro partners together - this may get new viewers to SCD if they do this, .......leaving Nicole.........nowhere. And pushed out disgracefully in my opinion. My above ramblings of course are not fact, just what I feel might be the case. I don't think the US dancers would fit into our system either and my own feeling is that there are many deserving British dancers who should get the opportunity first. |

I do believe the rumour re Kristina is true but don't forget she is a European dancer although she has been based in Usa of late, and she has contary to what people think not been on DWTS the show just the tour. I really hope Brian is not on the show as I feel it would be a bad move to include professionals from DWTS on SCD. Force Ten have pmd you |

Very true, bendymixer. Kristina will be joining the SCD cast this season. She is originally from Siberia, Russia, where she began her dance career. She's competed at Blackpool and placed 2nd in 2004 and was a Latin semi-finalist in 2007. She is ranked within the top 12 in the world. She is European trained and, I feel, will make the transition to SCD quite nicely. She was a company dancer on the last DWTS tour and was in practically every number. She danced with Derek Hough, Mark Ballas (after his shoulder healed), Brian Fortuna, and Alec Mazo. |

I'm pretty sure the only pros currently on DWTS who were born and trained in the USA are Cheryl Burke and Jonathan Roberts.Mark and Derek were trained in the UK and Mark's mum is British. Kym is Australian; Louis is Dutch; Karina, Alec, Anna, and Maks are Russian; Edyta's Polish; Tony is Croatian I think - not American in any case. The new guy Fabian is from Colombia. So you won't be getting many American pros from DWTS because they're aren't many to get, though Brian Fortuna definitely is one. I'm really surprised he'll be on SCD as he was not very popular on DWTS, at least going by the message board comments, though I did think he was a great dancer. And he's quite young - maybe 23 - so maybe the Beeb wants to go more youthful, like DWTS has done. Which doesn't explain Kristina Rihanoff because she's at least 29. Oh well, guess we'll never know how/why they make their casting decisions - maybe Corky has some pull since his son Mark and former ward Julianne have won the last three seasons of DWTS. |
