Is it just me who has noticed that the same songs have cropped up in IDA as have been present in HDYSAPLM or ADWD?

HDYSAPLM week 1 Simona and Belinda both sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow" ... in IDA it was used as a singoff in Week 3 ...

HDYSAPLM week 2 and Leanne sang "See the Day" ... in IDA Samantha sang it in week 2 ...

HDYSAPLM week 3 Leanne sang "9 to 5" ... in IDA Jodie sang it in week 4

HDYSAPLM Semi final and Helena sang "My Heart Will Go On" ... in IDA Keisha sang it in week 4

ADWD week 2 Chris B sang "I'll Be There" ... in IDA the Olivers sang that in Week 4

ADWD week 3 Daniel sang "The Lady is a Tramp" ... in IDA Keisha sang that in week 3

ADWD week 4 Craig sang "December 1963 (Oh what a night)" ... in IDA Rachel sang that in week 3

Now I know this doesn't exactly mean anything, but come on! There are thousands of songs to choose from, so there is no excuses for so many songs to be repeated already - and it is only week 4!

I dunno if there's significance, but they've given Keisha three of the recycled ones out of the seven you've listed there - 4 if you count the sing-off!!

If Andrew didn't like her so much, I'd suggest giving her songs everyones heard over and over before to try and make people bored of her

Don't they have to go through hoops to get permission to sing the songs. So makes sense to use the same if they already have the permission.

Mel you have too much time on your hands - get back to your books

But there are so many songs that they could use that don't have copyright any more that wouldn't be a big problem to use and ALW has written enough musicals that he should be able to get his own permission to perform more MT songs from his shows .... or pull some strings and borrow songs from other shows

Did he? I was utterly obsessed with Joseph and I have no memory of that at all. Just goes to show how utterly forgettable this guy was. Nice voice, good eye candy, competent performer, no star quality whatever. I thought the Olivers did a brilliant job of it this week.

Yep, I have it on MP3 like the rest of the series and it is very good. Chris B wasn't forgettable, and if you saw him in Mobile Jo now then you would remember him!

I think that my main gripe is that if they are gonna recycle old songs, couldn't they start with the MT songs, and then use the others later on ... I mean this is an MT role we are casting!

I quite like the recycling. Good to be able compare them all I think. Not all that useful for each competition, but then again, it shows the great talent of Helena for example against Keisha's far weaker performance, or Rachel's quality (dare I say star quality) compared to Craig's, well, whatever it is Craig had.

Also enjoyed the two very different interpretations of Maybe This Time. Probably preferred Abi, but mostly because I'm a fan of her voice. But Sarah's take was a bit more considered. Bring on a Nancy Cabaret cover!

Copyright lasts for the life of the author or composer plus 70 years. As such, only songs written by composers who died in 1938 or before are out of copyright, not sure there are enough well known ones out there! As such, if they have songs that they have permission to use it's hardly surprising that they recycle them since breaching copyright is a criminal offence, however much you might want to see JB, ALW and DVO in prison I'm not sure they'd risk it!

ALW's only written 14 musicals and not all of them have been successful or big hits. But I agree, more musical songs would be better, I cannot help but think that we learn absolutely nothing about the girls by listening to them singing pop songs.

That's kind of my point. I'm sure it was good. But I have no memory of it whatsoever, what does that tell you? I haven't seen mobile Jo, so I'll take your word for it that he's more memorable. But when he was on the show, I thought he was a great example of someone who had absolutely everything else going for him, but no spark of star quality at all.

On the other hand, you've people like Ben, or Abi from Maria, who had obvious flaws in their performances, but were clearly stars and once they stepped on the stage, you couldn't take your eyes off them.

Oh yeah, no one should do Paint it Black, that would just be silly. The spectre of Lee Mead just looms too large. There is no way any of them could compare.

Keisha suffered enough in my eyes when she got The Lady is a Tramp. Her version was fine, but I would have appreciated more if I wasn't comparing it to Daniel's 'I have all the charm in the world' performance from last year.

It does seem ridiculous that they want them to "tell the story" and then give them songs which don't have any discernable story... but then I suppose it tests their acting ability to the limit.
