Well I have been playing it for a couple of hours and it seems pretty good, I am a bit of a layman when it comes to sims so to me the game is similar to Sims 2 but I didn't go into depth with sims 2 so I really don't have the experience to judge.
I have notice one strange thing when I was creating my sim, when I selected any clothing other than everyday where my hair went to shaved head I could work out how to sort this as I kept going back to hair and my hair was how I liked it, but now during the game when my sim goes to bed all his hair falls off and he becomes a skinhead - I thought it was amusing, but wondered how to stop this for the next time? |

My copy arrived today and after several hours of playing it, I'm stil not as blown away as I should be or could be!
Its good in some ways, the little features are the best- being able to take classes for skills, being able to go to the cinema and other places and being able to decide how well your sims may do at work but I do think they could have added all those extra details in the sims 2 somewhere. The sims 3 doesn't feel that different to the sims 2, its not like the first time after we all got the sims 2. People are reporting bugs but touch wood I haven't had any so far. I love the new personalites the sims can have and the moodlets. I still don't like the fact if you leave a family it will be really different by time you come back! (I know thats the point lol) but its interesting someone has already got a hack to stop that. I miss things like weather- it sounds daft but I think they should have included that from the off. I still have the sims 2 installed and I'll still play it. The way I'll play the sims 2 is different to how I play the sims 3. I probably wont have that many families on the go at the same time in the sims 3. |

My copy also came yesterday (Thurs) but only had about an hour to play it so far. My first impressions are very good though. Fair enough, it might not be a huge leap on TS2 in the same way that TS2 was to the original Sims, but there's more than enough new features and gameplay changes to justify starting afresh like this. And remember this is just the base game, I think as the expansions unravel this series will really come into its own. Not sure about the EA store though, jury is still out on that one.
As for bugs, I had a scary moment during CaS whereby the cursor froze for about 20 seconds, screen went black, and then came back OK again a few seconds later. That was a relief after a particularly long session creating my first Sims 3 sim, which would have been lost had it crashed. Apart from that though it's been fine and running smoothly on high graphics settings on my PC. Looks great! |

Hmm, well I've got the Mac version running on my macbook pro - 1400x900 resolution, and to be honest, its not great quality wise. From what I've seen of the spec, the laptop is up to it, but it does seem to struggle sometimes. I'm tempted to "find" a windows version and install that on my vista partition... it runs various battlefields and call of dutys on higher quality far better than it runs the sims.
Seems ok though. Not that much of an advancement on Sims 2 though from what I remember... |

My friend got his copy and it doesn't work...I'm not going to buy it as I don't want the £30 risk.

I have Windows Vista, and it works absolutely perfect on my machine - well apart from the hair loss bug I have mentioned above - but that doesn't really detract from the gameplay.

When you design your character, there is a padlock in the hair choosing bit, if it is locked it means that you are choosing a hairstyle for all your outfits, if it is open, it means that you are choosing a hairstyle for the outfit your sim is dressed in at that moment in time...everyday, swimwear etc. They have made it so you can have different hairstyles for different outfits. If you know this and this is a bug I'm sorry. Just thought I'd reply as it sounded as if you left the padlock unlocked when you chose your hairstyle. |

I have a year old Dell laptop with Vista and the game has crashed about 6 times in the short time that I've had it, coming up with the message about "display driver igfx". So so disappointed, and the graphics are crap as well.

I have a brand new Compaq Presario laptop with windows vista, it only arrived one day before my copy of The Sims 3 and the graphics at the moment appear to be pretty shoddy. I've been into options and fiddled about but nothings helping, anyone know how I can improve the graphics appearance?

Sounds like your graphics card isn't up to par with the requirements. Google 'display driver igfx', to see if you can find anymore details. |

That was the first thing I did... I've updated the driver, but I'm totally technologically useless so probably best not to fiddle!

It's going to struggle on most laptops with integrated graphics I'm afraid.
I'm really liking this game so far. It's a lot trickier to play until you get used to the new interface. It's loading really quickly, but TS2 did as well before you start adding CC & packs to it. It's going to take the weekend to get used to it & explore it fully. I don't like how you have to select "Edit Town" to move to a different lot, I thought you would just be able to click it & choose "Play this lot". I reserve final judgement until I've had a good 8 hours of playing it. |
