I'm a Blackburn fan, but I'd love Aston Villa to win the league.

Anything other than a win is not acceptable , this is the test to see if they are top 4 material .

Oh dear looking like 1 of those days so far. Woodwork struck 3 times and 1 cleared off line and Arsenal score with their only shot in the half

0-2 now.
If Arsenal had held onto the lead against Liverpool last week there would now be just 5 points between the big four at the halfway mark of the season.

Thank god for that. If we'd have lost that if would have felt like robbery.

2 - 2 is not acceptable , we need to nail teams , be commanding and aggressive , we certainly are missing a target man .

Why oh why do we let teams score before we do ?

We were lucky today the game should have been beyond Arsenal in the first half .

I don't rate NRC in any position , certainly not at full back

not enough desire to win or quality in the spine of the team .

Someone please come in with a Big £££ offer for him

Can't really agree with any of that. Although Arsenal had players missing they were never going to be a walkover and don't forget we were missing Carew, Laursen and Cuellar 3 of our key players.

We were excellent and hit the woodwork 3 times in the first half and had a shot cleared off the line and then Arsenal scored with their 1 and only shot of the half off a lucky break from a 50-50 tackle. If that isn't Unlucky i don't know what is. The players couldn't have showed any more desire than they did today to want to win. We started the 2nd half slowly but that was understandable after the way we battered them in the first half and ended up going in a goal down.

NRC didn't have a great game today but only a few weeks ago he kept Ronaldo quiet at full back and he hasn't been playing that regualrly just lately so hes bound to be a little rusty and playing out of his best position.

Went to the game today - have to say that I think the first 45 minutes is as good as we've played this season. Quite ironic given my opinions on our performances recently (when we've played relatively poorly in my opinion, but still won) that we didn't get the win then...

We were all over them first half - can't believe we didn't score. That clearance by Sagna off the line was one in about twenty, and Davies' effort was quality. NRC was unlucky for the goal as he mostly had a pretty good game - won most of the tackles he had to and didn't give the ball away as often as he usually does. Didn't think we really started the second half at all and they were pretty good, although we sat off them and let them play tbh. Great ball by Milner for the penalty - and Gabby looked motivated and really up for it.

I'll never have a bad word to say again about Zat Knight. Quality finish - fantastic first touch too. Don't really know what Arsenal were playing at as they didn't seem to have any defenders back. We had a couple who could have put it in if Knight hadn't.

One of the more encouraging things was that despite the fact Ash was hardly involved today, we still looked dangerous and created plenty of chances. Eight or nine times out of ten, we'd have won that game - and also, Arsenal were woeful except for the period just after HT. Everton will be catching them for 5th if they're not careful.

Villa were a bit unfortunate not to be out of sight my half time IMHO. They did hit the woodwork a couple of times.

I think the issue sometimes is they struggle to hold the ball up top with just Young pulling left and Agbonlahor running himself ragged. Its crying out for the front man who can pull central defenders out of position as opposed to them being happy to be sitting deep, Young was being surrounded by 3/4 men every time he got possession.

I thought Agbonlahor was very clever for the penalty. It was a clear one but he quite brilliantly got on the inside shoulder of Gallas.

The challenge for Villa is to break teams down as more and more I get a feeling teams will sit back and frustrate them.

To me though, the outstanding player today wore yellow - Abou Diaby was positively Vieira like at times and Sagna was incredible too.

Fine boxing day fare but a result neither side would be totally happy with, I'd have thought.

Our main weapon is usually set pieces with the quality of Young's crossing creating chances for both Laursen and Carew and others to run onto, but we've got by most of the season without both of these 2 playing in the same team. When they do both play though it creates havoc for most defences having to deal with both of them. We definitely need Carew back for the games like you say Faxy where teams set out to frustrate us because 1 orthodox striker isn't likely to be enough to break teams down when they play like that, although we do have pace and width.

I wasn't too disappointed with a point today even before the match already having a 3 point cushion. It was just vital we didn't lose as i think unless Arsenal buy big they're unlikely to be very consistent for the rest of the season and us and Everton could both push them for 4th.

You could certainly push Arsenal for 4th, but I'd be surprised if we do.

No fit strikers, one home win all season, it all makes me wonder what the f**k we are doing in 6th at the minute - and there'll be nothing in the pot to strengthen on our part for January.

Agree that Laursen and Carew when available are critical players for the club. Where's Bouma these days, not seen him for ages?

He had that bad injury against Odense at the start of the season. Should be back sometime in January last I heard, which is great news, because it means we can have (in my mind) our ideal back four of Luke Young, Laursen, Davies and Bouma.

Shorey has fallen way out of favour, hasn't he?

He has yeah. I think the last time he started was when we lost to Boro at home and he made a howler for their first goal.

So did i lol. Was a very dull game although i think Hull set out for a 0-0 with the team they picked and they didn't gamble throwing players forward until about the 80th minute. Having said that we can play alot better and tonight our team was crying out for a target man to hold up the ball better. It's good to see us getting a bit of luck this season though for a change.

I think it's useless playing the long ball without Carew
