According to the BBC website Norwich goalkeeper Jed Steer will join Villa when his contract runs out on the 1st July!

I would not be suprised to see Given leaving us soon as it seems Steer has been brought in to be Guzans back up!

News has emerged tonight that Alan Hutton, Stephen Ireland and Darren Bent are training away from the rest of the first team during pre-season. Is this the final nail in the coffin for those 3?

Yeah, they're all finished here.

Will be glad to see Ireland and Hutton go, but I think Lambert's treatment of Bent is shabby. Given his chances, he can still hit the goals and I think freezing him out completely is a mistake. By all means put him up for sale, but I still think he could be a useful backup if we can't sell him.

I agree mate, we all know by now that Lambert doesn't like Bent but if we have an injury crisis up front next season or, if worst comes to the worst, Benteke leaves, then Bent is a more than adequate replacement who will get goals.

To be honest I think that Lambert puts Gabby,Helenius and Bowry before Bent in the squad!

I'm not surprised, but I'm disappointed. Disloyal bastard.

Well it seems from the club statement that they have told Benteke that they will only accept offer of their valuation of the player. If they don't get an offer then he will be expected to be a Villa player next season.I can't see them accepting less than £25m for him though!

I hope so...£25m and he can go. I hope the club don't back down and sell him cheaper than he actually is.

Failing us getting a decent offer, stick him in the reserves and f**k his World Cup hopes up!

I just worry that Lerner won't give Lambert the Benteke money to spend if we sell him as he did that before with Downing!

Best players want to leave ASAP for the ££££ and we can never seem to shift the deadwood who are eating the ££££.

Why do we bother with football again? The money has wrecked it completely.

I just worry now that the Benteke saga will drag on all summer till deadline day when we sell him and then are rushing to bring in a replacement!

Tell me about it. I'll always love Villa no matter what, but I'm utterly disillusioned with football as a whole right now and I can't see that changing any time soon.

I think Helenius will end up being his replacement, it's just a question of whether he hits the ground running like Benteke did. This is why I said in an earlier post that Bent could still come in useful...whatever our fans think of the guy 1) he's still experienced and still can score goals if given the chance and 2) despite Lambert's awful treatment of him he's never shown any public disloyalty to the club.

The rumours are that Lambert still wants to get rid of Bent despite the situation with Benteke!

So I assume if we do sell Benteke we will bring in another striker but who would you want to replace Benteke.I was thinking maybe taking a gamble on Hooper from Celtic to replace him!

The trick is, dont lumber yourself with deadwood on wages where you cannot shift the player.

Paul Merson is coming out with his typical anti Villa coments by saying that we will be relegated if we sell Benteke no matter who we sign to replace him.He predicted we would be relegated last season and he was proved wrong!

Benteke has agreed to an extension.

Also Lowton has signed a new contract.

What a great day for us.

What a turnaround that is!

That is certainly good news for you guys, but also bad news for Spurs!

Interesting - will only last a season or two though if he keeps scoring goals.

Good news for Villa nevertheless.

I'm pleased Benteke's staying, but he needs to win me back over with more goals this season. Not forgiving him THAT easily.

This is great news that Benteke is staying and its a total shock.I guess nobody wanted to meet our asking price and Benteke thought it was better to stay at Villa especially with the World Cup coming up next year!

Great news about CB for Villa fans , he was reported to be only on £20k per week, whilst Bent is on £70 K + per week, so you see why he wanted an improved contract to reflect what he did for Villa last season

I wonder what his revised contract pays him ?

Adds to the recent contract signees

For the first time Lerner & Faulkner really seem to know what they're doing.

I like this policy where we hunt for promising players on low wages and if they deliver they get rewarded with a pay rise. The way it should be imo.

I also think this is the best summer we've ever had. It would be perfect if we managed to get Bent, Given, Ireland, N'Zogbia, Bannan and Delfouneso off the wage bill leaving more room to sign in at least a couple of more players before this window shuts. I also hope Lambert is given a new contract because his way of doing things is fantastic. Provides us with a strong legacy that's been absent for years.

N'Zogbia is easily one of Villa's best players though. Why would you want to get rid of him?
