Clearly robbed. Could have been a point or all 3 if the ref did his job properly.
At least it's a massive improvement from last season. We're really good.

Our lads put up a bloody good fight tonight and they should all be proud. Just a shame we were robbed of a possible point (or maybe more) due to 2 shoddy ref decisions.

Feel for you there, fellas. Absolutely mugged by another referee in the pockets of the top four.

Bacuna has been very poor so far. Dragging the midfield down. Poor debut.
We need KEA or Sylla on as the replacement to calm things down. |

Sloppy first half in midfield,,,,,,,passing has been rushed and we have lost the ball too easy.
Bacuna needs to be replaced. Excellent chance for Benteke it was a good effort Come on Villa |

Sorry fellers, this result is my fault, I transferred Benteke into my fantasy team, so he was doomed not to score as soon as I did that.

Slight improvement in the second half,,,,,but so many misplaced and over hit passes.
We really need to do better at Home |

We were better in the second half but you could argue Liverpool were defending the lead and so sat deep.
The fixtures are a disgrace it has to be said. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in a week and then no league games for the next 3 weeks. |

As a Liverpool fan watching that 90 minutes today, I thought the only thing you lack is an experienced head who can enforce and dictate in midfield - you certainly won't be in the same relegation battle as last season, that's for sure. You'll turn over more than your fair share of Premier League teams at Villa Park this season.
The three week league break will probably give the team a chance to work on the positives from the last week (of which there were many) and launch a fresh challenge at home to a poor Newcastle side in mid September. |

Looks like we're signing one more player - Libor Kozák. He's meant to be similar to Benteke - good in the air and strong. Was the highest goal scorer in the Europa League last season so he's a potentially good backup.
We're desperate for an creative midfielder though. Someone who excels at set pieces and can unlock defences. It was painfully obvious against Liverpool and it'll carry on being obvious in our future home games. Ah well. At least Bannan looks like he'll be going. I hope Given goes as well! No chance with Ireland. He'll be here until his contract runs out.

Ireland has gone. Thanks Mark Hughes.
![]() Would have thought Given would be off by now. He isn't even second choice! |

BBC says 7m but a reliable ITK says it's in the 4.5m region. The latter would make more sense seeing as he's a backup incase anything happened to Benteke.
I think you are right about needing a central midfielder, its a shame Lambert couldn't get one in |

The shocking home run continues. The shocking lack of clean sheet continues. The shocking of passes continues. The shocking misses continues.
Looks like the pressure is on Guzan and Benteke to keep us up again. Disgrace, disgrace, disgrace. |

Poor. We should be looking for AT LEAST a point against teams like Newcastle at home. No complaints about the result, we got what we deserved...f**k all.

The thing what bothers me the most is Paul Lambert has spent around 35m + on the team in total so far and yet our midfield still looks light years apart from Newcastle. I'm sorry but questions have to be asked because we desperately needed a CAM this summer and instead he used 7m on another target man. When we brought on Kozak we lost all shape in the middle. Does that remind you of a certain Bradford game?
To not learn not from your mistakes is unacceptable. Judging from the boos the honeymoon is well and truly over. You can't expect fans to be thankful for this type of home performance. |
