I suppose we all live in hope of breaking into the top Four, but the amount of money the likes of Villa,Everton can generate are no where near on a par with them, the rich get richer and all that,we end up with the players that they don't want and when we buy big thats it our transfer funds are empty while theirs is an open check book

Do villa fans really think they are going to win the league?
I look at the games we have lost in the league , Middlesboro , Newcastle , Stoke and think if we had won those "Easier" games another 9 points would see us top of the tree . Then look at how we have done against the top teams Liverpool (H) Drew Chelsea ( A) Lost Arsenal (A) Won Man Utd ( H ) Drew Arsenal (H) Drew not bad really We don't play Chelsea until mid Feb then Liverpool 21st March and Man Utd 4th April so effectively 1 real difficult game every 4 weeks , we could get some points on the board to at least keep us top 4 if not better . I hope MoN delves into the market place in Jan and buys a couple of proven players to give us the lift and support the younger players who possibly have over achieved so far but could step up to the next level with a little experience around them Hopefully we will get points from the teams below us and the worlds our lobster Also a run in Europe will not harm the league efforts hopefully |

Who would you be looking at as realistic signings?
Knowing MoN he will have made a bid for Delph @ Leeds if the truth were known he prefers younger players he can nurture and Delph recently made it into the U21 ( a breeding ground for MoN buys) We are desperate for a Big target striker and Doyles name as been mentioned which I would prefer more than say Heskey or Jones @ Sunderland . Doyle did sign a new contract late in 2008 so it may take a decent bid to get him of £10 million plus and whilst not 100% proven in the Premier league I think he can step up with guidance from MoN What price Drogba from Chelsea . he is 31 now |

I'm afraid to say for Villa fans, its a race that they won't win,and I think every Villa fan knows it,but if they do it will be something else!
I am not saying we will win it , I am saying with the run in we have its in our own hands as to what we actually achieve Liverpool looked to be in the driving seat @ Christmas how things have changed looking at tonight's table . Keep winning and drawing and you have a chance . I wish Villa had taken the money for Barry now , maybe not after seeing how sweet the penalty was he took ![]() And can someone at Villa realise that NRC is not a right back It does make you wonder how financially sound Randy is at the moment due to financial background and the problems in the USA |

LOL.
Villa fans talking about "luck". Home goals galore, James Milner doing a Maradonna and a penalty for a foal outside the box today. He was tripped by Chimbonda in the act of scoring he as Milner as admitted to head and hand on the ball whilst scoring but his defence was he was tripped . It was a penalty if not a goal . I have it recording on Sky+ but you cannot pause , RW and slow mo as it is the interactive version I am watching at the moment . But AY deserved to be sent off for a 2 footed tackle We do seem close as a team |

Liverpool won't win the league they do what they always do since the premier league started! They give their fans false hope,so every year before christmas we get the 'liverpool are gonna win the league brigade' spouting off! Man U will win comfortably and I think most of us know it seeing that they are still in first gear!

It's difficult to see anyone stopping United, but the others aren't looking any better than we are. Also having seen today's incidents: -Milner might have put the ball in with his hand, but he was tripped before that, which would have left us with a penalty (almost guaranteed a goal given Barry's record), and Sunderland down to 10 men. -Ash deserved to be sent off for the challenge. I'm not going to criticise him because it wasn't pre-meditated or what I'd call a dangerous tackle, it was just mistimed. But he deserved to go. Hopefully the rest does him good. He's only going to miss 2 league games anyway, as his suspension will include the Cup tie against Cheltenham or Doncaster. -It was a penalty on Gabby. The foul might have started outside the box, but clearly the defender brought him down inside the box. The advantage should go with the attacker on this one so I'm pretty sure it's a penalty. The Luke Young handball was never likely to be given as he was a couple of yards from the ball and kept his hands by his side, without ever intending to play the ball with his hand. |

Villa have rode their luck and maybe just maybe something may come of it! But it's going to be a hard task to even finish in the top four!

Nobody said it was going to be easy, but we're in a good position to finish there. Like I said, 4th after 22 games and a few points off the top of the league is no fluke.

Tell me which club hasn't rode their luck this season , did you see the Chelsea and MUFC goal times yesterday ? Liverpool have played badly but still won this season on a few occasions and they were top of the tree , were they riding their luck . The thing that gets teams to near the top of the Premier league is consistency , put together an unbeaten run ( wins with a few draws and the worlds your lobster See this form guide , last 6 games http://www.footballanorak.com/FA-Bar...m-Guide-0.html 3 of the top 4 in the EPL are the top of the form guide http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...or/default.stm A pity Liverpool play Everton on Monday as they are in decent form |

It's a solid signing, we're in need of a target man when Carew's out and Heskey would fill that role although id still rather play big john when hes fit. I hope we go back to 442 now at home.

For £3.5m, I think Heskey's a pretty decent signing. We need someone to fill in when Carew's injured or things need freshening up. We could have done a lot worse, anyway.
Disappointed we missed out on Bullard but I don't realistically think we ever in the race for him, as he wanted to move back up north. |

Todays game just highlighted our need for a big un in the middle
Also , Petrov , Sidwell and NRC surely are not our future are they |

Also , Petrov , Sidwell and NRC surely are not our future are they Johnson would be a quality signing. Sturridge is alright but I'm not sure we need any more strikers. I cringed when I heard we were linked to Owen yesterday morning. He's a great finisher but we'd have to completely change the way we play to accommodate him, and I don't want us making any massive changes given how well we're doing in the league. |

Reo-Coker is useful because he's so versatile, and Petrov has shown glimpses this season of what we expected when we signed him. Sidwell is very hit and miss and prone to errors, but he's a good squad player to have.
. £5 million for Sidwell is OTT at best he is a bit part squad player All the above my own opinions of course
