4 points clear, 6 to play for...we're all but over the line now.

Yeah, we are playing so much better under Sherwood, some of the moves today were brilliant, we pass the ball so much better, we keep possession so much better, and even the nervy patches arent so nervy, although it was only 1-0 i never felt we were desperately hanging on at the end, if Lambert was still in charge we would be down with Burnley and QPR

Excellent first half though everyone was a bit stressed in the 2nd half as West Ham pressed, although Given only had one decent save to make. Almost safe though I won't relax until it is mathematically confirmed.

There is nothing to say about Villa earlier result against Southampton but at least if Spurs beat Hull then we are staying in the Premiership!

Well done lads, another season in the Premiership

Safe due to other results,a very poor display at lunchtime though,it seems the team had its mind on staying out of any injuries for the cup final

I hope Tim reads the riot act and leaves them reminded that anyone giving a below par contribution against Burnley will not be in the starting line up for the Wembley game

1978 FA Cup Final - Ipswich 1 Arsenal 0

Ipswich's last away game before the final was a 6-1 defeat......to Villa!

Hopefully today's result was a good omen after all!!??!!

Happy to be safe, i think it was a masterplan by Tim to send us out there playing such a highline and with a slow defence, for us to be hammered, thus meaning Spurs would need a win, enabling us to be safe, genius

To be honest though, we might have been getting a little over confident the last few weeks and this has brought us down to earth a bit, its going to be interesting how Sherwood handles a big defeat.

I am a Southampton fan and was at the game on Saturday and I have to say I thought the Villa fans were fantastic.
Even 5 nil down they were singing 'we're gonna win 6-5' with big smiles on their faces.

I think Villa fans are happy to be both safe in the league and to be in the FA Cup Final, which going back a couple of months they would have laughed at the thought of.

Tim Sherwood has done a fantastic job and should be applauded for the way he's got Villa playing attacking football again.

I hope Villa win the cup (even though it might mean the Saints don't qualify for Europe)

Might as well say goodbye to the FA Cup now. Piss poor last two games. Need a huge clearout in the summer if we want to move forward.

Bloody hell after a confident few weeks, we spoil it by finishing in 17th, i hope Sherwood's bubble hasnt burst already.

I'm not feeling that confident about the final now tbh.

Well both Arsenal and Villa have been very inconsistent recently so it is looking like it will be a very unpredictable FA Cup final!

The bookies have us at around 11/4 to win. I bet Wigan were much bigger odds to beat Man City. I give us a maybe 1 in 4 or 5 chance of winning. Arsenal are deserved favourites but favourites do not always win. We were big underdogs in 57, 82 & 94.

Right before the 57 final we had lost 3-0 at Wolves and 3-1 at home to Luton. We had only won 2 of 8 before the 82 final. We had lost the 3 games (home to Ipswich, away at Leeds and home to Oldham) before the 94 final.

As with 2000 I will enjoy the occasion (I count myself privileged to be watching Villa at Wembley for the 7th time) and will probably be blubbering like a baby if we win!

I know I don't post in here ever, but damn am I nervous, can't sleep, and if I didn't have a friends wedding coming up I would be there. Also, my local team are playing in the Scottish Cup final, so what a day tomorrow (well today now!) could be

I haven't stopped feeling sick all day. To win the Cup would mean so much.

I'm getting really nervous now.

I was at Old Wembley in 2000 and its an awful memory seeing us lose, even though i'm not there today i'm hoping we can win, so i can shake off the bad memories.

Come on Villa

This was even worse than the last FA Cup Final. Today we didn't turn up and got battered.

Absoutely shocking last 3 games under Sherwood to be honest.

That was embarrassing for Villa and that's all I have to say!

My poor Dad, well in his eighties, couldn't go to Wembley in 1957 because he was getting married. Still waiting for another win

Arsenal were a class above but not many teams don't turn up so conclusively as Villa today. Embarrassing in the extreme.

Yep Dreadful stuff,, we were outplayed from start to finish, we looked like a non league side today, really disappointed, it looks like Sherwoods bubble has well and truly burst

Utterly pathetic. We got what we deserved.

HUGE overhaul needed in the summer. To not have a single shot on target in the FA CUP FINAL is unacceptable regardless of who the opposition was.

Apparently Sherwood didn't give an interview to the BBC because he had shut the team in the dressing room. Terrible thing to have to do on such a big day. Villa were so nondescript that none of the Arsenal interviewees had anything to make them mention Villa had actually taken part. The day could not have gone any worse for anyone concerned with Villa.

So the clear out begins, with Bent the first out the door
Motthus
14-06-2015
Well I wonder if we will see Micah Richards being signed as a Villa player this coming week?

I wonder if these rumours about him being paid £65,000 a week are true but that was what we were paying Bent so maybe they are!
Motthus
23-06-2015
Well apart from the Micah Richards signing it seems like Sherwood is having a bit of a clear out at Villa!

Wonder if he plans to bring anyone else in soon?
