Looks like Delph may have a £10m release clause in his new contract (yes that's less than he is worth but he held all the cards and could have left for nothing if he had wanted). He is being linked with Man City but I think he would be sitting on the bench there more than he would be playing.
It looks like it will be a much changed Villa team in 6 weeks as I would be surprised if Benteke stays, although we need to hold out for the full £32.5m. Buy Austin and Remy with that money and it would improve the team imo. Knowing us we will probably end up with Borini and that Uruguayan tank from the Italian second division! It seems very quiet on the supposed exclusivity re a takeover. Hopefully we will have some good news on this in the next couple of weeks but at the moment I am preparing for another relegation battle with 6 or 7 other very mediocre teams. |

Some Villa fan sites are saying that the £10m release clause in Delph contract can only be actived when Villa are relegated from the Premiership
I don't know how much truth there is in those rumours but a move anyway for Delph to Man City would not be good for his career at this point as the previous poster stated that he would end up sitting on the bench for most of the season! |

Well it looks like Delph is set to join Man City and we have signed Gueye which has now been officially confirmed!

Maybe it was just tactics on Sherwood part to get some money from Lerner to sign Gueye or maybe Delph just realised that he didn't fancy Man City bench next season!

IT'S TRUE!
The Villa fans were angry last week. I can't imagine what they would be feeling now after he said about how he's sticking with us and still decided to do a U-turn. Even I wasn't that annoyed originally but I certainly am now. |

Not many happy fans on Facebook or Twitter on the official Villa account as they post all the usual PR stuff but nothing about Benteke or Delph
It seems a lot of Villa fans just want the truth from the club BBC have said on Twitter that the deal for Delph was agreed with Man City by Lerner yesterday. It seems that Lerner just wants to get as much money back from the club that he can as he can't sell it! |

Whilst we will miss him on the pitch compared to most of the dross in our squad, he is not good enough to be a regular for a Man City side challenging for the league. Lots of energy but an average passer with an average touch who scores and assists once in a blue moon (if you forgive the pun).
Sadly this, and the Begovic transfer, sum up what is wrong with today's football and why the Premier League (and most top foreign leagues) is so predictable. When I started watching football you got different teams challenging at the top for a year or two then others would appear. Now it is all about who has the money and the sooner the rich clubs clear off and create their inevitable European super league, the better imo. As much as I love Villa, and will continue to go and support them, if you were a kid growing up in Birmingham why would you support Villa when you can jump on the glory hunting bandwagon and support one of the Sky 4/5? And back to Delph as a person, his actions and words say it better than I can. I don't think that he will be getting the same reaction from the fans that the likes of James Milner and Peter Crouch receive when he comes back to Villa Park on the weekend of 7/8 November! |

I don't envy Tim Sherwood trying to find a team in the next 3 weeks before Bournemouth. Taking off the money going to Genk we will have netted about £40m. Given the dross in the squad I thought we needed to spend at least £20m net. Now, we will need 5 or 6 quality players urgently. I hate to agree with the fat scouse anti-villa ex sky blue on talksport but Villa are currently in serious trouble. Over to you now Tim to see if you can dig us out. |

It's beyond a dumb move.
Sure it's good short term. Huge money. But in long term it'll do damage to his career and reputation. He won't be respected as a football player sitting on the bench for years. Euros chances will be worse. No one will believe a word he says in future. Villa fans will throw negative chants at him until he retires. He'll be sold off to a club like us but not as loved. Just a dumb move apart from the money. If he didn't lie to the fans TWICE maybe he would be on the same level as Sterling relations to the fans. Just think about how much of a joke he's becoming. Even the neutrals aren't happy with him. Just bad. |

I cant see anything other than relegation next year, yes we've got the money from Benteke and Delph, but how can we replace them, and will Lerner even allow Tim any of the money.
Lets face it once City came calling Delph was going, it makes a mockery of what he said when he signed a new contract, he just wants to warm the bench and pick up a medal if they win the title |

Hearing Delph statement on Sky Sports News saying that he stayed at Villa last week for his love of the club but activated his release clause to move to City this week was because of football reasons. It honestly made me feel sick!

No Benteke has not yet been confirmed but it is looking very likely.Although no fee has yet to be confirmed to be agreed with Villa and he is over in Portugal with the rest of the squad

Delph is a good player but I can't see him holding down a first team place at City every week. Silly move, especially after saying he wanted to stay at Villa.
Was it Delph who wanted to move, or his agent telling him he can get him more money? |

Villa should take a look at some players available on loan. Arsenal have a few young midfielders who could do with some game time

Villa stuck in a hellish limbo with Lerner wanting, but not being able to sell. The Delph saga made far worse by the fact that the guy made himself so Villa centric with his statements. There is ofcourse a chance he might cover himself with glory at City but lets not forget the only restrictions they have moneywise are the imposed financial fair play regulations-and he will go in as a squad player-not the guaranteed 1st teamer he was at Villa. There is a brilliant tweet towards the end of this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33572493 wishing Delph good luck with his loan move to Stoke in 2018 ![]() Delph will obviously be hoping otherwise. ........and whats with the fee? England international approaching his peak! An 8 million release clause seems very shortsighted at this moment in time. |

At the time of him signing the contract I think Villa had the choice of either losing him on a free or putting that release clause in the new contract.I guess they thought at that the time that £8m was better than nothing!
I can't believe that Delph is trying to put the blame onto Richards advice from 2 weeks ago for this move to Man City. Its advice you don't have to listen to it as its your own choice but obviously Delph can't stand up for himself! |

Villa have now officially confirmed the signing of that left back Amavi.Although I still get the feeling more players are going to be leaving now as well as Benteke
