Crikey, how bad was that "tackle" from Belhadj. A stick on red card for basically a wild kick.
But in fact he only gets a yellow. Shocking ref. |

Level with the leaders...well, for fifteen minutes or so at least.
![]() A very resilient performance from the lads, great effort. We were pretty good in the first half, but never really got going in the second. I don't know why MON took Gardner off as he was arguably our best player outside of the back four and Friedel - a really solid performance. I'm sure people will say we were lucky but I don't think Pompey really caused us too much trouble or had that many opportunities. It's just never easy to watch when we're holding on for dear life at the end.

Good to see MON hasn't lost his magic touch.
P.S can we have him back now? |

Pretty much agree with you Demo. Good to see us looking solid at the back for the first time in a long while too. I'l take these scrappy wins every week while we have key players missing.

Forgot to say i thought Milner looked alot better tonight on the left as well compared to where he normally plays on the other side. MOM would have been a close call between him Davies, Heskey and Knight who all had excellent games.

I'm glad heskey got the goal because some people (around the web) were moaning about signing him and it was nice to see MON giving gardner a chance than sticking with sidwell it will be intresting to see who MON leaves out when young returns.

Only caught the stream after about 60 minutes, but we absolutely battered Wigan and could have easily scored two or three but for some heroic defending. Our performance was encouraging although we did smash long ball after long ball forward once Carew came on in the second half.
Wigan aren't a bad team though so I'm not overly disappointed with a draw, and we didn't lose any ground to Arsenal. |

Very unlucky not to win - 3 cleared off the line and hit the post twice, so much for lucky Villa

Very sorry to hear of the death of former Villa midfielder Paul Birch at the scandalously young age of 46.
RIP. |

Well good outcomes all round tonight.
See you in Round 5 for the undisputable tie of the round ![]() Will settle for a shite 1-0 scrambled winner to be honest, don't think my ticker will stand another 5 goal thriller..... |

For the second day in a row, heavy snow has prevented me from going to the office, so I'm working from home. I actually think it's heavier today than it's been at any other time this week.
![]() We played fairly well from what I saw and heard on Wednesday night. Obviously I'm pleased we're through and I'm also pleased Everton made it through, too. Should be a good game, although I'd gladly sacrifice losing to them in the Cup for taking six points off them in the league. I wouldn't be really down if we did get knocked out but it is nice to see us put a decent cup run together for a change (same for Everton I guess). Regardless, I'll be behind whichever team makes it through. At least with the game being on Setanta, we stand a chance of seeing a goal if it goes in. ![]() Blackburn tomorrow, and Ash makes his return to league action after missing the Pompey and Wigan games. This is going to be very tricky with the way Blackburn have turned things around under Allardyce, but we really do need to be winning this sort of game. It'll be even better if the teams around us drop points, which is definitely conceivable. Arsenal, United and Liverpool all have difficult fixtures. |

A much better performance today. Defended excellently and Friedel barely had a save to make all game. Going forward we were alot sharper too and created alot of chances where on another day it could have been 4 or 5. Lucky lucky Villa
