I still haven't forgiven him for the 2000 FA Cup final but I'll get behind him and hope he can prove us doubters wrong. I'm just glad it's not Pearson.

He actually has a respectable record to be fair. 52% win record at MK Dons, 49% at West Brom, 57% at Chelsea and 42% at Schalke. If he can get something similar with us, he'll have done a good job.

I think what was an exciting period a couple of weeks ago,, new owner, a choice of managers, has now turned into it looking like only one manager with any credibility wants to work for us, and the owner is a bit of a Walter Mitty character.

Oh well its early days , if it is Matteo then i will get behind him as he did get the Baggies promoted,, but as Yoshi said, i still havent forgot his goal in 2000 ,, ruined my bloody day he did , especially after trudging around London looking for a bar that wasnt completely full before the Final.

I really hope this new owner turns out to be the real deal, i'm dreading him being a Charlatan tbh.

There seems to be speculation in the press now that the new owners won't pass the FA financial fitness test The EPL has officials investigating too on the basis that Villa are still a Premier League club until 8th June.

Nervous times again.

That story about them not passing the fit and proper person test is just in the Daily Mail at the moment and even then it's a very brief story with not much detail about it!

The EPL are investigating as part of the fit and proper person test before the takeover is complete as you said Villa are still a premiership club until 8th June

Sky Sports News and other newspapers are reporting that Di Matteo will be appointed within the next 48 hours

It seems that nobody knows what is going on at Villa at the moment as everyone in the media is just taking guesses with these stories!

Agreed, so much'reporting' is either lifted from the likes of Twitter, or re-reported from other media outlets. The BBC Sport website has an update saying the takeover is not in doubt, although they don't quote a source.

This bit

But BBC Sport has learned £52m has been paid into an escrow account, ready to be transferred to current Villa owner Randy Lerner.....................

Xia has also provided proof of funds that will guarantee he takes on an existing debt of £25m.

The same amount will be payable to American Lerner if Villa, relegated from the Premier League, return to the top flight within three years.
makes me think , errrmm, get Villa promoted in 4 years and save £52 million

True but it's a hell of a lot of money we're talking about and a clause like that is only like player clauses when they're sold on - results driven.

The price achieved is reflecting Villa's current status as a relegated club but the value will rise significantly should they be promoted again in the relatively near future.

Still think you should of gone for Pearson. I think he would of got you back up. I don't think Di Matteo will. But I am probably 100% wrong

It's not saying Pearson was interested though. He probably feels Derby's a better job this season.

Well it was confirmed by Villa yesterday that Di Matteo is Villa new manager

I would assume by Villa doing this that the takeover is certain to approved!

Steve Clarke will be his Assistant ,, i'm excited to see how they do, they have got a massive job to do though getting rid of the bad apples and bringing in players who can get us promoted,, hopefully because he has won a Champions League players might want to come and play for him, i'm not expecting world class players but some of the next level players may want to play for him and have a go at getting us promoted.

Or it will all go tits up and the owner is a Charlatan, Clarke and RDM won't get on and we are bottom at Xmas

Was Steve Clarke the assistant to Di Matteo at Chelsea when he was manager there?

Eddie Newton was his assistant at Chelsea, he's still at the club but working with the youth players now. Clarke was assistant to Dalglish at Liverpool and then became West Brom manager when Robbie was managing us.

Will be interested to see how RDM and Clarke do. Personally think Robbie was very harshly sacked by Chelsea, and West Brom for that matter.

They didn't work together there either, as Clarke was Zola's assistant at West Ham around the time Robbie was at West Brom. So this will be their first time as a management team, interesting times ahead....

Two of the most useless footballers I've ever seen in claret and blue, good riddance to them. Now all we need is Agbonlahor, Lescott and Bacuna gone and we've got rid of the rot.

Tommy Elphick in talks to sign from Bournemouth. Strong performer in their Championship winning season and captained them too, so seems a solid signing.

Elphick is EXACTLY the sort of player Villa should be signing.
Looks like they are finally getting a clue.
