Poor first half, a lot better in the second , but the usual depressing defeat

We need to get into the habit of winning very soon , or we will be dragged down with the same doom and gloom as last season.

Elphick was a shining start today though imo

Well last season started with a win at Bournemouth but that didn't help us!

I agree that Elphick was a class above the other players

It did seem that when Wednesday scored that doom seem to return to the Villa players who were better in the second half

Our midfield though looks so weak it's a big worry but I guess we will be bringing in more players and hopefully once McCormack gets fully fit he will make a difference!

Just a depressing start to the new season but at least we have a cup game against Luton on Wednesday to forget about it!

Well that was pathetic display by Villa tonight against Luton and made me ashamed to be a Villa fan!

Can things get any lower for this club?

It just shows the mess of a club that Tony Xia and RDM have to try to clear up!

Shocking stuff , i'm not overly bothered about the League cup at this stage, but we needed a win tonight for confidence , but that was a woeful performance , i'm now expecting things to get worse tbh .

I remember when our poor run started last year , i kept thinking if we get a win we will get confidence back , but we never got a won, looks like this season has started the same

I feel sorry for RDM already. Who would waste energy over that shower?

I just don't understand why our players are so mentally damaged. Instead of putting things right after relegating us they're still feeling sorry for themselves and crumble at any sight of danger. This isn't go to fly with our fans and can see it being ugly for the players at Villa Park if we lose again.

I think we're done for a generation at least. The amount of damage Lerner, Fox and Sherwood did last summer was just too much. Xia has been ripped off.

The goals we conceded tonight were exactly the type we conceded all season, its like its become in bedded into the squad.

We've got two home games coming up to put it right, but i kept thinking this last season , we had games to put it right and we didnt and unfortunately i don't have any confidence they will put it right now.

I just hope they can otherwise we are in trouble

Yeah I agree as if we lose our next two home games then we could be serious trouble before the season starts properly especially with the lack of confidence around the club at the moment!

I hate to say it but Ian Holloway prediction of us finishing 16th might be right!

The Villa are probably more concerned as to why The X Factor choose to do the Birmingham auditions at St Andrews rather than at Villa Park this year because of the money involved.

You're doing this deliberately now, aren't you?

Well BBC website are saying we have agreed a £8m fee with West Brom for James Chester

Also other rumours of moves for players as well as other players leaving Villa such as Lescott and Gabby!

Hopefully if we get Chester he will be a good signing, we really need a brand new defence.

I would like to see Richards gone as well , the sooner we get rid of the bad apples the better , i thought Richards looked overweight last night, i don't know whether he is bulking up in the gym or had a poor preseason, either way he didnt look too mobile.

If he is going to stay and De Matteo plays him, then he needs to played at right back , he is a dreadful center back imo.

Please do us all a favour and stay out of our thread, troll. Every post you've made in here has been a pathetic childish dig in some form and it's really f**king tiresome.

Chester's signed for us, Xia's posted a pic with him on Twitter. Good signing.

Good Luck to James Chester did not deserve the treatment he got at West Bromwich Albion.

Great signing for Villa with James Chester and it will be good to see him with Elphick at the centre of our defence!

It seems from Tony Xia tweets that Gabby will be going out on loan to assess his fitness and he mentioned Lescott going as well

Although it seems he would rather not sell or loan to championship rivals!

He suffered from a policy of not having proper full backs

*sigh* Another shitty result, another poor display from the play...oh...hang on...nope, I don't need to say that today.

First win in six months combined with a solid performance from all concerned. For the first time in a very long time, I have no complaints about a Villa match.

So far then a loss against a promotion rival, loss in the cup and a win against a relegation candidate!

It does seem so bad when you say it like that and maybe the lack of playing in the cup will help us in the league?

Although not long to savour the win with Huddersfield on Tuesday which is the real test of Villa as can we keep up our home form of one win!

I agree it seems a bit sad to celebrate a win against Rotherham , but we havent seen many wins and certainly not by 3-0 hopefully it will give everyone a lift and we can go on from there.

Devastated about Dalian Atkinson's death. One of my earliest football memories is seeing him in the claret and blue shirt.

Holte Ender in the sky.
