I am more than pleased with this season, a definite improvement and heading in the right direction. Most other years sixth place would have been good enough for a UEFA cup place however due to this years weak and dodgy FA cup final Villa miss out. One consolation today.

Good race for fifth with you guys.
Losing Mellberg is a blow but you are definitely getting places with O'Neill. Hope you can get through the Intertoto the more English teams in UEFA the better.

Indeed if I understand correctly the Inter toto is simply a one-off-two-legged tie against a no mark team from some far-away land.
Almost felt sorry for the Birmingham City board today...true scum Birmingham City fans. |

So I thought I'd resurrect this (thanks to Funkie for pointing me in the general direction of it)...
![]() Only three signings so far this summer - Friedel, Davies and Sidwell. Barry seems to be staying although the media refuse to let it go. We need a right back, a left back, a creative midfielder and a right winger before the window closes as a bare minimum. I love MON as a manager but in the transfer market he does seem to be a little slow. I can't moan at any of his signings but it's obvious we need a fair few players if we just want to maintain where we finished last year. Teams like Pompey, Spurs and Man City have invested pretty heavily, we're lagging behind a bit. Tomorrow is a) the date for Guzan's work permit hearing and b) the UEFA Cup Qual. Round draw. |

Not too disappointed with our draw in the UEFA Cup, we shouldn't take anything for granted though Also, Guzan's work permit went through yesterday, so we've got more keepers than fit centre backs now. |

If Barry wants to play for Villa then I've got no problem with him staying. If, however, he's going to spend the whole season whining and wanting to move to Liverpool, then I'd rather him go now.
So he can go now, knowing he might get to play the odd game with Stevie G, but ultimately, his England aspirations will suffer as he finds it difficult to cement a first team place against better players in Mascherano and Alonso. Furthermore, the best Liverpool will do this season is 3rd, but more than likely they'll be in a fight for 4th with Spurs, Pompey, Everton etc., which isn't a million miles from where he is right now. Bye Gareth, thanks for the 10 years service but your recent actions have left Villa fans with a bitter taste. |

Not long now untill the start of the season and Villa still need at least 5 or 6 new players. How can we start the season without either a right or left back and only 3 fit defenders including Curtis Davis!

This is encouraging news from Randy. I hope MON takes the hint.

Apparently we've agreed fees with Boro for Young and Reading for Shorey. That's our full back problem sorted.

So it seems like the Americans aren't going to give Rafa the money to buy Barry, despite the fact that they were willing to do so just a week ago. And their excuse? That Barry is too old and has no resale value, even though they paid more money for an older player. They've even refused an interest-free £12m loan from a property tycoon. I wish they'd just sort themselves out. It's a shame that a club with their reputation is making such a mockery of itself but more importantly, it's not helping our preparations for the season. |

Well lads, you've signed Ugly Betty from der hun.
Although Spanish, he is more a typical British Centre-Half who puts his head and any other part of his body in where it hurts. Best player for them last season by a long way. |

Cuellar's a great signing for us. I don't watch the SPL but I managed to see quite a bit of him in Europe last year, and he was the main reason Rangers made it as far as they did in the UEFA Cup.

The way the former messiah has managed to send our city rivals back into meltdown is absolute genius. Now can we have Maloney back please? |

Some might say the only reason, MON has signed a quality defender who would be the only player who could get into the Celtic team.

I really like Maloney as a player but it's a shame he hasn't settled down since he came to Villa. I think MON will probably give him till about January and if things aren't working out, I can see him coming back to Celtic. If not January then definitely next summer. |

.Seriously though not many people thought it was going to be competitive as last season, Rangers have spent £9m so far and have yet to improve their team plus they have 7 strikers and no midfield. Maybe the Cuellar money will rectify that but with Rangers out of europe they need that money to break even. Quote:

As for tonight, hopefully we can get at the very least a score draw, but really it's a game we should be looking to win and put to bed before they come to Villa Park. |

Im looking forward to tonights UEFA cup game. Also some good news for Villa fans from the offical site:
"Talismanic striker John Carew has handed Villa a pre-season boost by penning a 12-month extension to his current deal." |
