Marvellous victories at the moment. I took a look at the upcoming fixtures around the Christmas period. We have Aresnal on the 27th and Liverpool on the 29th?! That's two days apart!

What kind of an idiot would do this and how is this even allowed? Two flipping days! Would our lads be fit enough to handle Liverpool or you reckon MON will be forced to use some reserves? I still can't get over this!
Sky Sports. Both the Arsenal and Liverpool game will be shown on TV, so they've moved us from Boxing Day to the 27th, meaning we have two games in three days. Obviously, they're scared we might break up their beloved Top Four, so they're trying to stop us!

Besides...the way they are currently, our reserves should be enough to see off Liverpool!

Not our greatest performance, but it's another win, another clean sheet, and we'll be in the top four for Christmas! Only two points behind Man United too!

Bring on Arsenal and Liverpool!

Win the Arsenal one and there will be serious talk about the title.

You are still very much off the 'media radar' which has to be good for Villa.
Chelsea are now firm favourites but I do very much wonder about January.

Two games that Villa will be expecting to get something from.

It will be good to still be in the top four when Christmas is done and dusted and we must avoid a slump like last year when we didn't win a game for months.

Lovely touch from Carew with the way he went over and kissed that boy, asked if he was alright, wished him a happy christmas and gave him his shirt.

Great stuff.

Argh, we got toasted. Outplayed yet again, fair play to Arsenal though. We really need to buy a quality striker this Jan if we want to break the top 4 this season.

Testing times for the Liverpool match now, we have to defeat them if we want to deny them the 4th place and to give us a boost of confidence back of the crucial matches against Blackburn. We cannot have the same fate as last season.

It was probably the worst time to play Arsenal. With Chelsea slipping up again, they had a big chance to close the gap at the top, and they weren't going to waste it. Though I'm bitterly disappointed by the result, Arsenal's victory was fully deserved.

The next month will be crucial for us.

It only takes a quality striker to make a difference. That difference was Torres, something we haven't got and that's the reason why we'll never be top 4 contenders. Hell, it's starting to look like we won't be top 6 the way things are going.

Same old inconsistency from Villa. It's going to be interesting how well we do against the Blackburn games, but I'm sure not as hell confident at the moment. Come on MON, bring in the quality.

We desperately need a proven goal scorer and a replacement for Petrov to boss the midfield and play Collins instead of Cuellar

Liverpool can play badly and still get points , sadly Villa cannot replicate this ability to get points against the odds on a regular basis

Torres and Gerrard were pants today , Torres class only showed through in the last few seconds

Hard lines tonight , I'm very relieved to get the win at your place and Torres was the difference. It gives us a lift but you guys are going to be right up there for 4th and higher till the end of the season. Good luck in the Carling Cup , I'm hoping you go all the way and win that one

Thanks. Good luck for the rest of the season too...you'll be in the top four come season's end. You're too good not to be.

Villa are Top 6 material , no way are going to make top 4 , unless we make some good signings in Jan and move some of the deadwood out

You too, Faxy! Hope to see Everton back in the European places soon...you're the only one of our rivals I actually like and respect!

Happy new year, Villa fans! Let's hope MON's got a goalscorer on his radar this month.

1-0 win at Blackburn in leg 1 of the Carling Cup semi. Were it not for some iffy referee decisions, we might have been more comfortable.

Still a job to do at Villa Park next week. But we're SO close to Wembley!

Utterly frustrating.

After today, surely even MON will realise that he must sign a goalscorer. Carew and Heskey aren't scoring enough, and Gabby was bloody woeful. Also, why was NRC missing from the bench?

On a slight positive, according to BBC Sport Updates...

1510: Stiliyan Petrov clears the ball from the Villa right-back position and it has only gone and knocked Robbie Savage's headphones off in the BBC Radio 5 live commentary position at Villa Park. Seriously.

1512: BBC Radio 5 live pundit Robbie Savage is bleeding.

Nice one, captain!

The crossing into the box and final ball were shocking today, it was like we were giving Green catching practice a lot of the time I'm a bit worried our players may burnout again this year if MON doesn't start rotating some of our players and using the squad a bit more.
