That'd be great, but for some reason, the board (well, according to the papers, so it may be utter crap) have ruled out Sven.
Latest reports seems to be that Houllier is going to be a Director of Football, Kevin MacDonald is going to be manager and Steve Staunton is going to be his assistant. I really hope this is all media bullshit, but I have a feeling there's at least a hint of truth in all of this. |

Steve Staunton as assistant? Now I've heard it all. What has this man done to warrant a place anywhere near Villa? He got sacked at Darlington for christ sake.
If they're gonna appoint Houllier, make him the manager. No messing about. It's becoming a joke that it's taking this long to sort out now. |

Looks like we'll be getting Houllier as manager.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...359276,00.html It's not the worst appointment from the short list I suppose. And he has got worthy honours. Should be interesting to see if he can handle the modern day league though. Just glad all this speculation has come to an end. |

At least it's the manager's job he's been offered...I'd have hated it if he'd come as a DOF. I'm just glad it's finally sorted out, and we can get back to focussing on the matches. He wasn't my first choice, but he does have a decent record.
Best of luck Gerard. Just don't swap Carew for Baros again.

There seems to be abit of an uproar that we could be getting Phil Thompson as the assistant. My take on it? I think this is what Villa seriously needs. A guy who will kick the players into gear if they're underperforming. He may be biased towards Liverpool (as he should since he supports them) but when it comes down to a job like this, I have no doubt he'll be professional about it. The partnership are winners and that's good enough for me. I can see a major backlash though if we don't win the first 3 matches. It could turn very ugly actually, so I hope they prove the doubters wrong.

At last, Houllier is officially confirmed as manager.
Doesn't seem like Thompson will be joining as assistant, apparently he wants to stay on Soccer Saturday. |

Thompson saying with Sky was for his own good. I don't think he would have got a pleasent welcome tbh, my Villa mates were dreading it, but I wouldn't have minded.
I'm glad we've got stability back into the club. I, and many others are behind you Houllier, make us proud. |

Hopefully Houllier will be a good appointment.
I'm pleased to hear that Thompson is sticking with his one day a week job watching free telly. |

Houllier has my support and respect for what he has achieved in football and for being a gentleman. However, I cannot see anything other than a mid table finish unless we are extremely lucky with injuries. We certainly cannot afford to lose Ash or Gabby for any sustained period of time.

Oh well I officially now want "you's" to do well this season. I have a lot of respect for Gerard Houllier, obviously mainly based on 2001 with us. Hope it works out well for both parties.
You can finish 2nd to Liverpool (Oh how I wish haha). Well I can dream. I see phil Thompson turned down the opportunity for family reasons, couldn't commit to the hours he'd have to put in and moving his family. |

Why do we always concede late goals against Stoke?
![]() When we needed a goal, we brought on Heskey. Again. We have to get a striker in January, or we're ****ed. Open the chequebook Randy, and let Houllier bring one in. |

Shocking.
The sooner Kevin MacDonald is out the dug out the better. Only a mug would bring on Heskey. |

Getting sick of Kev Mac letting us down time and time again. Roll on Houllier. I hope he gets rid of the deadwood this January.

Blues, Villa and the Baggies all playing today, locally. A recipe for disaster right there...

Awful. Just awful. Thank God MacDonald's finished as manager now...any more of this tosh would have been disasterous.
Bring on the Houllier era. |

Didn't expect anything today. Our position at the moment is fairly decent. Could be worse. Just take a look at Everton...

Groundhog Day! We started off brightly, took the lead and took our foot off the pedal and what followed was very, very average.
The only 3 to perform well imo were Luke Young, Collins and Friedel, which says it all in a home game against Bolton. Friedel was by far the busier keeper and we were lucky that the foul on Elmander in the first half was not given. I wish Houllier lots of luck and on the performances since the West Ham game he will be doing very well to keep us in the top half. Considering that the players should have been really up for impressing their new boss there was, after the first 20 minutes, very little movement, desire or ability shown (apart from the 3 already mentioned). Looking at the next 6 league games (Wolves, Spuds, Sunderland and Fulham away and Chelsea and SHA at home) then unless things improve significantly then I think that we could well be nearer the bottom than the top 6. Must do better, Villa!! UTV SOTC |

Very sorry to hear that a Bolton fan died at Villa Park yesterday. My condolences to his family.
