I'd have happily taken a draw at the start of the match, so I'm not TOO disappointed, but ultimately, we blew it. Again, our lack of a consistant, experienced goalscorer let us down. How much longer will we have to wait before somebody at Villa signs one?

Really Yoshi? I fully expected us to get 3 points today, so I'm annoyed with the result to be honest. Well, I was pleased when we equalized, but still...

2 weeks left. Still time.

I thought Villa were very good today and definitely deserved the win, lots of early chances created, and nearly taken. you seriously shouldn't be down hearted after that match. The team did well.

Given how poor results have been across most of the season, I wasn't as confident about the game.

They call this the 2nd city derby & it's not a sell out? Less than 23000 there and a fair few empty seats?

This isn't a criticism of Villa in this game per se, but Villa Park also had plenty of empty seats when O'Neill was pushing them into the European places.

I'm not the the area, but this seems to be a symptom of metropolitan West Mids football at the moment - Wolves & West Brom also seem to have the same problem.

Despite not being confident before the match and hoping for a draw at best, I did see some good play from Villa that makes me believe that they are turning the corner and starting to gel under Houllier.

Positives for me were the back four, especially Walker who looks like he could be a great signing, and Dunne who apart from the yellow card looked solid and hopefully is getting his confidence back and returning to the form of last season. Albrighton was his usual self, running tirelessly and causing some mayhem, whilst Delfouneso should be in the starting squad for next Saturday against Man City as he looked very sharp for the last 20 minutes and unlucky not to get a goal.

However, I feel its time for Carew to be shipped out. He looked like was willing to put in a performance for the first 15 mins and then decided he could not bother. Gabby looks like he has no confidence at the moment and Petrov was caught out a few times with his speed. Houllier should have replaced Petrov with Bannan and not Reo Coker.

Anyway, we got a point and small heath can thank their crossbars that they did not end up losing by a few more.

It's going to be a tough few months but I feel we have the quality to get a midtable position and hopefully Houllier will be looking for a new striker right now.

Blues fan in peace.

Would love to go , but the costs of tickets , plus train fare etc means its just not economicaly viable. People only have so much money & with the cuts / unemployment etc then empty stadia will be more commonplace. The West Midlands has been hit hard over many years with the closure of the industry etc & you can see that with the clubs its having an effect.

Even at Man Utd you can still buy season tickets , get tickets for games that a while back would have been sell outs.

I went to some games in previous seasons, but I'm just cutting down now. Spent way too much in the beginning of 2010 when really it was not needed, especially in this climate.

Darren Bent could go to us for 18m. Good news if true. His proven he has the ability to score goals in this league.

I literally punched the air when I read this. If we can get Bent (a GOALSCORER! At last!!!), that would be a fantastic signing. And £18m on Bent, £6m on Makoun should silence any doubters that think Randy's holding back the money.

Dare I say it...Houllier is starting to win me over. Results may not have been fantastic so far, but I can't fault the transfer activity. Makoun and Bent coming in will improve us immensely, and Kyle Walker on loan was a gamble that has so far paid off. Plus, he failed to get Wayne Bridge!

I'm giving him a second chance. Need to start getting results though.

What's excited me most about this move is Bent himself wanted to come to Villa. That shows willingness to make it work, so his head will be in the right place. I think that's why Ireland has struggled since he got here, he had no choice on the matter. I hope Ireland will be part of the deal for Bent.

Yeah, Houllier has really surprised me with this window. It may not end here though. We could still be getting Adam (F off Holloway) and a good LB. Most exciting Villa window I've ever witnessed!

The same way he really wanted to go to Sunderland (do you remember the Twitter stuff)?

He's only in it for the money but hopefully will bag you some goals while he's there.

GL for the rest of the season.

I remember the Twitter stuff perfectly well. Who else did he have a choice from? Hull City and Stoke.

His exact message was "Do I want to go to Hull? No. Do I want to go to Stoke? No. Do I want to go to Sunderland? Yes". Best out of a bad bunch in all honesty.

Slight delay in the press conference, but he's been photographed with the Villa top and all.

I can't see anything updated on the official site. Is there a delay still?

Aye, news-reporters inside the conference room say it is going to be delayed until 7pm. =/

I've heard on a few Villa forums that there is a spare seat as well. Makoun or someone else? Why such a long delay?

EDIT: The Times on Twitter and BBC Sport have confirmed he has signed a 4 year and a half year deal.

He's a right royal moneygrabber

I'd be wary of any player taking such a sidewards step.

I would have thought that upfront is the least of the areas that you'd want to strengthen.

It's a hell of a lot of money for a man who's scored very few in open play this season

Sidewards? I beg to differ. Villa are a huge club with a good owner, fans and history. We've also been part of the Premiership since it's inception. As for the upfront line - we're hugely lacking in goals: Carew hasn't been bothered this season and an injury to Gabby and what are we left with? Heskey is good in patches but he's just that, Heskey.

To be frank - he hasn't been happy at Sunderland and he hasn't been getting the service. I'm surprised nobody else has come in for him. But, yes. £18m is a lot of money.

That said, give him the tools and he will do a good job

I can see an exciting partnership of him and Young. I'm over the moon with the signing - Randy has opened his wallet Fair play to Houllier too - we're actually spending money on decent players (if you take Makoun with Champs League experience into the mix). Now, if we can only find a replacement for Milner and we'll be in business! (please, Makoun, pleeeeeease!).

Shows what you know. Villa have needed a goalscorer for years, our current strikers have a grand total of 4 league goals between them this season.

My other half is a Villa fan, not too happy with the signing to be honest - seems an incredible amount of money.

He's got the 39 shirt apparently.
