Shows what you know. Villa have needed a goalscorer for years, our current strikers have a grand total of 4 league goals between them this season.

We urgently needed a good striker and Bent is as good as we can realistically attract at the moment. The fee is of course ridiculous but so are most fees these days...even Zigic cost £6 million!

Bent, yep the price looks a bit much but Villa haven't had a striker who can score 20+ goals a season for years.
Hopefully Bent will be consistent anyway it's good to see that we are still a buying club. |

More good news. Houllier said Downing and Young are not for sale.
It makes me laugh when people say we haven't got the cash and are a selling club. Tonight has proved otherwise. They just see things in black and white when they don't know we have alot of deadwood to sort out thanks to a certain manager leaving it all behind. |

Some Villa fans are never happy.
We don't sign a striker = lack of ambition We do = We spent too much A prolific striker like Bent = goals which equal = paying over the odds, It seperates the bad from the good. |

Sidewards? I beg to differ. Villa are a huge club with a good owner, fans and history. .
Bent has already played in front of Villa's 'good fans' when 32,000 turned up to see Villa play Sunderland. Of course, he also was there when 43,000 turned up to see that fixture at the Stadium of Light. |

The Aston Villa supporter thread
Just thought I'd make this, as I'm sure there must be an Aston Villa supporter out there to answer it.
£24m for Darren Bent? I mean, come on. |

Only Drogba and Rooney have scored more than him in the past 3 years. Man City paid the same for Milner.

Have Villa been creating the kind of chances chances for Bent to tuck away?
If yes, great. If No, then Bent will not make much difference. |

It's sideways.
Bent has already played in front of Villa's 'good fans' when 32,000 turned up to see Villa play Sunderland. Of course, he also was there when 43,000 turned up to see that fixture at the Stadium of Light. Yes, Villa is a bigger club. I label us the same as Everton and Spurs. Yes even Spurs back when they were at the bottom of the table so I'm not totally biased. But I can accept they're becoming bigger than us now if their form and squad keeps up. Afterall, we've been part of the Premier League ever since it begun. Didn't Sunderland only get promoted 3 or 4 years ago? Oh dear. It seems to me you're getting too big for your boots just because this is the best season you've ever had in this league. Just because our run of bad luck with the biggest injury crisis we've ever had and MON walking 5 days before the season, doesn't mean our form has suddenly gone. It's not over yet. Villa also has a bigger fanbase but if the fans of my club can't go due to financial or personal reasons, then that's their business. Afterall, at the end of the day, it's just a game and it's not life threatening. It's an optional livelihood. We also have the silverware to show we're big even though it has been torture for us in the last 15 years. Oh well, that's Villa for you and I wouldn't change it for the world. Now with the Bent issue I can safely say you should be greatful for him. Without his goals last season, you could have possibly been relagated. Although on the flipside, your club has helped him find his form again. That's great. He said in the press conference yesterday that he had a good time at your club and it's time to move on. I know how you must feel because the same happened with us on Barry. He obviously went to Man City for the money. I was bloody annoyed with him but at the end accepted it. Then the season after that, Milner did exactly the same. But instead of being bitter this time, we all cheered him for his services. This is modern football. It sucks, but it's about time my club became ruthless for once. The soth approach gets you no where. I'm sure you'll do the same in the future and be cheerful about it. Don't come in our thread to be bitter when it's not our fault. We were surprised as you were. |

Bent wanted more money, spat his dummy out and signed for you for the extra wedge, its about nothing more or less than that. I must say he looked absolutely thrilled to be joining such a massive club in the press conference didn't he? |

Absolute rubbish, SAFC get bigger home crowds than Villa and always have, despite you being located in a huge city and being a damn sight more successful, we won't even mention your poor away support.

I must say he looked absolutely thrilled to be joining such a massive club in the press conference didn't he? Yeah, his gonna be thrilled to have the services from the likes of Young, Downing and Albrighton at his disposal. It's gonna be a shakey move for any player to move in the middle of Jan, and if he had smiled all the way through, you would be sticking the knife further. Also, I heard his mum was getting racially abused, his car getting wrecked etc. I bet he couldn't wait to get far enough. I actually heard he made a transfer request back in the summer, obviously hasn't been happy at your club for a long time with Gyan getting in the way as well. Now could you please take your bitterness away from this thread. It adds nothing here. Do it in your own thread by all means.

I said fanbase. Not crowds who attend a stadium. Our away support is immense. Ask any other club.

He wanted to leave as soon as he got wind that Villa would offer him more money. Don't get me wrong im not bitter towards Villa at all, but his 'footballing reasons, massive club' excuse was a blatant lie which he could not hide from his face. |

How do you measure fanbase other than by fans in the stadium? Even if what you say is true, whats the point in having fans who don't turn up to support the team?

Well, he probably did do it for money. That's modern football I'm afraid. The majority of players think of themselves over the club. But if he can prevent us of going down, I'll be thankful for him. You don't know how long we've been needing a calibur of his strike force. I'm sure we would have finished 4th, maybe 3rd if MON got him. I said ages ago we should be going after Bent and that was before you got him. |

Jesus wept...
I've just been labelled a Sunderland fan ![]() re - Midlands being hit. Sunderland is one of the poorest areas in the country, indeed it's a dump. Hence most of it's team live in Newcastle or Northumberland Away fans? I'm a League One fan myself but I judge crowds on the good and the bad, you can't not turn up because you disagree with an owners decision. Villa at the moment are no bigger than Newcastle, Sunderland, Everton etc |

Good luck today Darren. Hopefully you can net a couple and get hypocritical OPH's knickers in even more of a twist! Of course you never walked out of any management job to go and manage another club did you, OPH?!!

First win of 2011, first clean sheet since October, first goal for Darren Bent. Not a bad evening!

I knew you guys were being critical of your manager without giving him chance to sort things out.

I still think his attitude at Anfield was a disgrace. He won't win me over until he breaks the 40 point mark.
But he has played a blinder of getting Bent I'll give him that. Lerner as well for splashing out. Some could argue we paid too much for him but how many chances did Bent have? One. And he scored. Well worth the fee in my eyes. There's also Makoun for around 4m. BARGIN! A defensive midfield player who booted the ball past Casillas from 25 yards. I cannot wait to see him in action for the Wigan game. Walker is looking good as well. I hope we sign him permanently in the summer. I just hope we sign one more player before the window closes. We need to get a good LB. Clark is looking shakey at the moment. Focus on a new midfielder, goalkeeper and maybe one centre back in the summer. |
