You don't need Rafa, I can't understand why any premier league club would have him. Just look what he did to Inter Milan in a very short space of time, a treble winning side under Jose. Milan didn't waste any time booting him out when they saw what he was all about. Surely McAllister is just a caretaker manager at the moment, Rafa wouldn't be a step up, he'd just spend a lot of money on a duff squad given the chance. What about Hiddink? He wouldn't be a bad appointment, seems to be a nice bloke and did a pretty good job at Chelsea, or even Martin Jol?
Guus Hiddink would be brilliant but seems unlikely. We've favoured Martin Jol since MON left us and I would be pleased if he joined us. |

Take six months of his many years in management and then dismiss him lol. I suggest you leave your "I'm a Man Utd fan and we hate Rafa" head off and look at his overall record, many trophies I think you will find. Well good enough for Villa. |

Gary Mac is utterly useless.
Need West Brom and Tottenham to win now to be safe. With Liverpool and Arsenal coming up, doubt we'll get another point this season. |

Gerard Houllier seemed to be the ideal choice for long term, but he did make it really hard on himself to relate to us fans with his comments and decisions. Sadly he can't continue to make amends due to his health. We need to be looking for a manager like him who's good at the transfer market with net spending and can cut down our wage bill dramatically. MON has left us in a real terrible shape like Rafa did at Liverpool, so he wouldn't be the ideal choice for us.

You'll be safe, for me you are not in the mix and never seriously have been. Had Bent put his late chance in things would have been looking better, but it wont end in relegation.
It'd take an utter disaster to be relegated now though.I don't think Benitez will be the next Villa boss. He relies heavily on having money to spend like MON did. All the signs seem to be suggesting Houllier will be staying on next season, reports suggest he's already seeking out transfer targets. A bit risky I think, but as long as it gets Gary Mac away from managing the team, I'll welcome him back with open arms.

Rafa Benitez would be fantastic for our club, if only the fans would give the man a chance. I fear however, that after the Barry saga he will not get that time or opportunity.
Benitez has always said he wants to manage a club that has a youth structure, and where he can build a legacy. We have all the right structures in place. Believe me also, Benitez would not take any of the crap that has came from some of our players this year, ie Dunne and Collins getting pissed and slagging club officials off. He would install authority and discipline in that team. |

Anyone else rather disappointed with the youngsters? I thought they would have set the world on fire, but none of them seemed to do anything worthy when they were on loan.
My picks for next season would only contain Albrighton and Clark. The rest I'm unsure about. |

Hopefully next season we will be back in the mix as far as being in the top 6/7 goes. Maybe I'm being a bit of an optimist when I say this, but at the end of last season I actually pictured Villa being in such a position at the end of this season that I would genuinely think we could make a good crack at the top 4 next season (if that makes any sense at all?!

I absolutely adore pre-season. I love the build-up, the ridiculous speculation and waking up to find a new player is about to sign. The signings always surprise me. I hope we get a new management team in. Houllier needs to put his health before football. We cannot wait around. We have to move forward. We have a wealth of managers to choose from. We will never get a better selection. If we can get someone in that stirs up the fans, then we have a whole summer to prepare for next season. |

The Fonz was at Burnley where he was playing out on the wing. He absolutely hated it there. I am worried though, as I heard on numerous occasions that he has a very poor attitude.

We need a new management team as soon as possible to allow them plenty of time to sort out the problems we have and make us the rightful top 6 club again. It seems we have links to Flores, Benitez, Rijkaard, Jol, Moyes etc. A much improved list. |

I remember celebrating the Intertoto by myself.
![]() I would prefer Moyes and then Benitez. Flores might be worth a shout. Not convinced by Jol or Rijkaard. |

What I don't want is a 'place holder' manager, I want someone who will be committed in the long run, which I'm guessing is what a lot of fans want. Rafa Benitez would, IMO, be an ideal choice.
I also read in the Mirror today (the only paper north of the border with EPL news in abundance ) that James Collins is showing signs of wanting something more out of Villa or he might leave. At least that's what I think he said as I no longer have the paper on me Also, Mcallister said that Cuellar has a future at the club, I bloody hope so too

Firstly it is the Mirror. I would not wipe my arse with that paper if I had no toilet role left. The paper is an absolute rag.
Secondly, if it was true I have to laugh. Collins has been absolutely shit this season. I would love to see the back of him in the summer anyway. I am sick of his absolute shit performances, and his lunging tackles. We need a new CB in the summer, and get rid of Collins and Dunne. They have taken the fans and this club for mugs this season. |

LOL, it is a pile o'shite, but here in Scotland it's the only place to get concise EPL news in a paper. I was happy when Dunne came to Villa, and with his early performances, but this season he's disappeared

The first season he wanted to prove City wrong. After he succeeded in that area, he was not motivated to do anything else.

Dunne and Collins have been a comedy duo all season. I have no idea why Cuellar has to sit on the bench to watch them make fools of themselves.

It is very puzzling. Why the management cannot see that is beyond me. Are they actually that clueless?

I have been surprised, nae shocked, at the abandonment of Cuellar. A rock in defence for Villa as opposed to Dunne or/and Collins.

What about what he did to Mourhinio's treble winning side? Bad luck I suppose.?Any board daft enough to employ him will reap the rewards soon enough, plus he needs a shed load of cash to do the damage first.
Look at the Inter Milan side now under Leonardo. Anyone coming in after Mourinho would have a tough time, as that Inter Milan side are definitely not the greatest. They rode their luck last year. Plus, the side clearly needs investment. What about what Rafa did at Tenerife and Valencia without spending a shed load of cash? Or the Champions League in 2005? Everyone knows that Inter Milan side needs serious investment. Why do you think Sneijder wants to leave this summer? Milito has been very poor this season. They have numerous players well into their late 30's. |

You don't win a treble by riding your luck. Okay I'll give him credit for 2005 but he left Liverpool in a right mess. I actually think many of the Liverpool players were relieved to see him go. How many good signings did he make? He lost Alonso in his pursuit of Gareth Barry. He relied on key players and didn't have enough strength and depth to his squad. No wonder Torres got the injuries he did, he never got a minute's rest. He spent a lot of money on duff players. I actually have a lot of respect for Villa and I think you deserve a better manager than Benitez. Many United fans were disappointed when he left Liverpool myself included because of the damage he was doing. So it's not just because he managed Liverpool and obviously wasn't afraid of Sir Alex.
I'm sure if Rafa came in he would try and fix this mess. His transfer record is a concern yes, but I totally respect him for trying to do things right and not go marching off if things don't go his way. The top manager I want is Moyes, but if Rafa is appointed, he would have my full backing. |

He didn't leave Liverpool in a right mess either imo, one bad last season with outsdte influences (owners) to boot. Only a season before he was taking Man Utd to the wire in the premier league race. He made lots of good/decent signings too. Reina, Arbeloa, Skrtel, Aurelio,Kuyt, Mascherano, Alonso, Torres to name but some....yes duds too but still plenty of good ones. Also only your totally lacking any credibility view that the players were glad to see him gone. And oh yes it is
