The legendary midfielders Moustapha Salifou and Isiaah Osbourne have left the club. We'll never forget them!
I'll pretend I didn't read that.

Just read Reo-Coker has been released as well. One I actually am sorry to see leave, though I'm not surprised he's gone. Interesting that Friedel's name isn't on that list.

I wonder if that means GH is staying.

I get the feeling that Houiller will be at Villa next season after today activities

I guess after these players being being released that we will see quite a few players arriving at Villa over the summer.I was sad to see Reo Coker leave but I guess he wanted more money than we would offer.I'm sure some other team will sign him soon though!

Reading General Krulak's comments I think Randy definitely wants GH to stay. I still think that would be a big mistake both for our prospects and GH's health. I think GH should either retire or move upstairs so we can get a new dynamic manager in. Most people on VT and Vital seem to be of the same opinion and although Randy's loyalty is admirable it does not exactly fill me with optimism for next season...although I will be renewing again. Of the 10 players released, only NRC is a big loss imo...we all know his good and bad points but I would still rather have him than the Bulgarian Butch Wilkins.

Pires has left the club and said he felt 'disrespected' during his time there.

What did he expect? He was only ever a short-term backup signing to deal with the injury crisis...he got more time on the pitch than most would've given him.

I think GH is staying. Not happy about that, but if that is the case then I wish they'd just announce it soon and let us get on with the summer. First sign of him looking ill though, and he MUST go, for everybody's sake.

Birmingham Mail front page says that Houllier will be a goner within the next few days.

Interesting choice of words for a man with an ongoing heart conditions

(though I'd love to know how his surgeon thought taking on a club in veritable crisis at the time wasn't seen as a little too stressful for the man)

Current news:

1. Young will most definitely leave
2. Downing has made it clear he wants to leave
3. Houllier is chasing after 5m
4. We're heavily linked to Hughes as our next manager

My opinion? The circus continues...

While he isn't top of my list, I think Hughes might be a shrewd appointment. He's done a good job at Blackburn and Fulham and he wasn't a disaster at Man City either...he just never had a chance with boardroom pressure. He's also worked with Dunne, Ireland and Warnock, so there's a possibility he might get the best out of them again too, assuming any of them are willing to stay and work for him.

I'd personally prefer Jol or Ancelotti, but Hughes would get my full backing if he does arrive.

I would be severely underwhelmed if Hughes became our manager. Don't get me wrong, he isn't a bad manager, but with the list of candidates available, I'd be let down. It would be like we're accepting table mediocrity and is it any wonder why our best players want to leave every season?

Realistically, I reckon we should go for Jol. He has this certain edge about him who could get us back to top 6.

They probably legally can't say anything incase it would affect any pay out if they say he's been sacked or mutual consent or resignation etc etc etc

Mat Kendrick (Birmingham Mail's Villa reporter) has said on Twitter that a statement is being finalised and could be announced tonight.

Houllier has left the building.

Let's hope a new manager is appointed soon. We have work to do!

Agreed..

Doesn't sound like he was totally keen to go though.

Indeed. One of the nice guys in the game. Sadly for him, I think Aston Villa will be his last managerial post. I can't see another club employing him unless it's as some kind of advisor or similar.

Heh, he has walked away tonight with a few million. People that know him say he adores football though more than anything, but the money will definitely help.

Ian McGarry an insider journalist at Chelsea is convinced it will be Mark Hughes. I have no problem with that whatsoever. I think he would do a good job. I love the fact he is a man that is very passionate about his teams and he stands up for his club through and through.

It seems the rumours could be true as Hughes has left Fulham so he could be heading to Villa Park now!
