Whelan confirms approach but expects Martinez will stay at Wigan.

I never thought it possible, but this summer is fast becoming a bigger farce than last summer.

He wouldn't be that bad actually after having a think outside. He has a good philosophy and there's room for improvement due to his age. It's not like Wigan are backing him huge amounts either.

It seems a risk, but there's also potential. Still not my preferred choice though.

I'm just gonna sit back and wait who it is now.

He has a 26% win rate at Wigan. Ok, it is Wigan, but the fact is Wigan are absolutely awful at the back and he has not acknowledged that since he got the job. They cannot defend set pieces since has came in and he still has not fixed it. Steve Bruce finished ahead of him.

Rafa wanted £60m to revamp the squad and Lerner said no. I guess that shows the ambition. They have turned down a word class coach who would bring in great players, for a man that survived in the Premier League by 15 minutes. **** off Lerner if this is true.

Given he said Villa were a half-arsed club in January, I think he'd probably be less popular than McClaren would be.

And certainly less competent.

I think with money and expectation Holloway would flop big style.

I really thought Jol would have been perfect for Villa or Moyes.

Still...would fancy a fiver on Bruce Arena or Bob Bradley

Who do the Villa fans want now..Wigan guy an acceptable choice?

Mclaren would have been ok I reckon but guess there is that bad reputation after England.

Fulham must have got in for Jol before you guys.

Looking lower down in the leagues..?

How crazy is this journey?

Hughes, Ancelotti, McClaren and Rafa were all favourites at one point. At the moment, Martinez is the current favourite but it might not be him either.

I think there's another twist to come.

Ancelotti doesn't want it, Moyes doesn't want it, Benitez doesn't want it. We expect that Martinez doesn't want it. Jol's gone to Fulham.

Dare I say it, but I think Randy should swallow his pride and approach either Hughes or McClaren. They might not be popular appointments for one reason or another, but they're probably the only two who might actually want the bloody job.

The thing that's putting potential managers off is the club's lack of ambition. If they were serious about breaking into Europe they wouldn't be allowing their best players like Reo-Coker, Downing and Young to leave.

While you are arguing about who your new manager should be, I want to point out Maradona was linked with you last summer, and he is still waiting for a job in the EPL, I believe.

Think he's gone to manage a club in Dubai, so that rules him out.

What about Louis Van Gaal ?

Managed lots of top clubs, his teams play good attacking football and he's available ?

Van Gaal wouldn't be bad, actually. Don't think he's even been mentioned, which is surprising.

Still think it'll be Hughes though. Just wish they'd get on with it though...if the board piss about until July 1st, I won't be happy.

The amount of rubbish coming from the media is laughable. They're saying we were turned down by Roberto Martinez for the job and what's worse is the public believe it.

Haha. I agree mate. It has been a rollercoaster alright. I will support any boss that comes in other than Alan Curbishley.

My father went to his grave saying Curbishley is a ******. He treated our club like absolute shit (before my time), he gave an interview about his "Villa nightmare" and now he wants to manage us?

Well, how many times have Sky Sports News been running the exclusive?

First it was McClaren, then they were absolutely adamant it was Rafa (Even though the best ITKs on the Villa sites said it wasn't). They were sure it was Hughes before that.

FFS, even before Houllier came in they were also sure it was Bob Bradley.

Put a shift on Randy. It's all good and well going through the proper channels, but the honourable approach won't get us anywhere in football. A prime example is that Dave Whelan has shafted us right at the spot and we've came out of it badly.

I'm at the stage where my patience is wearing very thin now. Another week passes away with no real news. Why is it our board can't identify the man they want straight away? Fulham managed to get Jol with less time to prepare and he's a bloody good manager. This whole interview process is a time consuming joke.

We have a squad that desperately needs sorting out. It's not gonna magically fix itself within a couple of weeks. It's gonna take months of hard work if we want to progress again and we need to act now.

I was 50/50 on Martinez. He is a young manager that likes to his players to play attractive looking football but he hasn't as a manager won anything of note and his win percentage for Wigan of 26% is bloomin awful.

Some say he is loyal for staying at Wigan, it also could be said that he has a lack of personal ambition.

Villa should be setting their standards a bit higher.

I think he did want it...He put in what he would want if he became your manager...budget etc...your owner said no....

the other problem is your now selling players
