What's pissed me off most over the McLeish saga...it's not the fact he's the ex-Blues manager, or that he got them relegated twice. It's the board's utter hypocrisy over the situation.
They ruled out Hughes because of the way he left Fulham. They ruled out McClaren because the fans didn't want him. Yet McLeish has left Birmingham under more controversial circumstances and the fans want him even less. As I say, if (as seems to be the case now, sadly) McLeish is to be our new manager, then the board have all but damaged the fans' faith and support in them. It shows a complete lack of ambition. I will give him a chance...I'm not going to completely write him off without giving him a chance. The board had better pray he gets us up the league pretty damn quickly. |

I'm not sure what is sillier. You hiring McCleish or the bluenoses thinking they have a case for compo against you. It's been a bizarre episode.

That's me done with Lerner. The Yank does not have a clue at all. Disastrous appointments in America and when he has to make a decision in 5 years he dithers. He then dithers again when everyone knows the doctors will not allow Houllier to return.
F@cking prick. |

It doesn't say he'll become our next manager, just that they're interviewing him. But the fact is why on earth do they want to speak to him?! They've had two months to prepare for this. There's loads of candidates out there who would do a better job. It's inexcusable. They're not doing their job properly. We are now offically a laughing stock! It's about time we bring some football people upstairs because this is truly a shambles. They have no idea what they're doing. |

There was a time when Villa was the model for US owners compared to the Glazers and Hick & Gillett. Lerner seemed to be steering it the right way with a light touch. Times have definitely changed somewhere.

TalkSPORT reckon he'll join as boss in the next 24 hours.
What is Lerner thinking of.

I can't believe he wants him full stop, regardless of his affiliation with Birmingham.
He's not a good manager. His style of play, lack of tactical nous and unwillingness to play certain players is a joke...and don't give me anything about a Mickey Mouse cup win. But then combine that with the fans attitude and you have a recipe for disaster. I feel for the Villa fans now having gone through the same thing with Hodgson last year (though without the rivalry bitterness of course). Like Hodgson, he won't last. The atmosphere will be so bad between the club and the fans that the negativity will translate itself onto the pitch and Mcleish will be looking at his 3rd relegation in 4 years! |

What gets me is this contradicts EVERTYHING.
The board hired Houllier so we could play positive football, have strong connections and blood our youngsters. McLeish is the complete opposite of that. The board were upset that Hughes resigned from Fulham, yet McLeish does the same thing and that's ok? McLeish done something similar to MON and they want to speak to him? There's the fact he comes from our rivals. The statement says they're after proven Premier League experience. What!? He relegated our rivals TWICE in THREE seasons! Do they want us to be relegated? We may have to pay out 5m to bring him on when Hughes is out there free and much better. Rafa would be a better shot as well. Why, just why?! The majority of us don't even want him!!! This is the most alien concept I've ever seen from my club. The board are truly well and finished if they hire him. No one will have faith in their ability anymore and negative chants will head their way. |

Why? Because he has decided to keep quiet through this whole procedure? He is nothing like Mike Ashley.
People seem to think we're doomed, but it's just the media trying to sell rubbish stories because there's hardly anything happening in football at the moment. Of course, he did eventually name the correct man in Hughton. Lerner has appointed (snigger) Alex McCleish. Its Brian Laws at Burnley...Souness at Newcastle....Lombardo at Palace....dooomed I tell ya!

He is surely a poisened chalice and comes with far too much baggage.
Are they really prepared to pay the compo to BIrmingham City? |

This is genuinely one of the most baffling managerial appointments I can remember.
I cannot think of one good reason why McLeish is a good manager for Villa. |

He played counter attacking football at Anfield against teams like Bolton and Fulham. |

Well they were never gonna bring Rafa. Rafa said he wanted 60 million to revamp the squad. It seems your owners didnt share the same level of ambition.

I'm still clinging on the hope that Randy won't be stupid enough to hire McLeish. It's just mad on all levels.

I'm hoping he's not too. I'm fully expecting McLeish to be our new manager though.

I think McLeish is awful manager likes big cloggers, defence relegation football.
I notice most of your fans are of the above reasons why you don't want him as opposed to who he managed previously |

Randy's managerial/head coach appointments so far:
Romeo Crennel - Failure Eric Mangini - Failure Gerard Houllier - Failure Alex McLeish - Oh dear! Randy is a nice bloke by all accounts, but seemingly clueless when it comes to sporting knowledge. I have renewed my season ticket, but I certainly do not support the decision to bring McLeish in (based on footballing reasons, not because he managed Small Heath Alliance). |

I just don't get it...
I really don't see what McCleish has. He was very hit and miss at Rangers. Scotland...well he did his best (lets not count the other Scottish SPL sides he managed as its irrelevant) and Brum...well he won a cup...but Brum were god awful this season. It's a bonkers appointment. If VIlla get a hard start to the season and say face away trips to Old Trafford, Emirates etc and end up with 0 points after 4 games the supporters will be on McCleish like wild dogs. He won't get the comfort other managers get. Villa Park won't be full (not that it was full last season either mind...) Whoever is advising Lerner ought to be shot. McCleish is a nobody. |

Well when the only other managers available reject you/you publicly trash them (ALA Hughes)...Mcleish is about the only one they havn't scared away who has Prem level managment under their belt. |

I love the way they say they have taken into account the fact he was Birmingham City's manager for 3 years! Very good of them to think about it.

He's not even a good manager. Mick McCarthy has kept Wolves up two years in a row having built the team from nothing on a much lower budget than McLeish and playing better football, why aren't Villa considering him?
