Well, we brought in Hutton and Jenas (loan) from Tottenham, and will also sign Enda Stevens from Shamrock Rovers in January. Not the signings we might have hoped for, but at least we've got some more players, whether they're first team or merely backup. I'll judge them properly once they've played a few games for us.

Hutton is a good replacement from Luke Young. Younger, lower wages and could prove just as good as him.

Jenas could prove useful. N'Zogbia seems chuffed about him coming over here and team spirit is always a good thing. Also has the experience to at least be solid.

There's also the Irish kid, but we're not going to get him until Jan. Looks promising.

Not really excitied, but not disappointed either. I hope they'll be enough for a decent top 8 finish.

Tonight's England team has 5 Ex Villa players from the start,if only we could have kept them <sigh>

Poor. That's all I have to say about that performance.

After 5 league games I can safely say I already want McLeish out. Those were garbage tactics. Why on earth were we sitting deep at home against Newcastle? Even when they equalized we was still doing it. Some extremely poor performances by individual players again as well. We didn't even deserve to draw.

This is a laughable performance. So negative. Yet again we're being out played against a Bolton side who have made 9 changes. I can't see McLeish lasting if this keeps up. The board are beyond a joke.

I'm utterly disgusted. According to the radio, Bolton's keeper hasn't had to make a single save from an attack of ours. Shameful.

I'm fairly patient, and am more than willing to give McLeish more of a chance, but if this is the dross that he's going to churn out in every game, then he and the board might as well pack their bags and go. Given he won this competition with an inferior team than us, what's his excuse for this? Take nothing away from Bolton, they thoroughly deserve their win.

I'm starting to seriously worry about our future.

I would gladly accept a defeat if we played a top side like Man Utd or put in a good performance against a weaker side and was just unlucky, but this was against a Bolton (who are in bad form atm) reserve side at home and it took us up to the last mins of the game to have our first shot on target from Collins. How pathetic is that?

Funny enough, I bet one of the reasons why the board hired McLeish was due to his Carling Cup win, but what they've failed to realise due to their stupidity is that Blues had an ridiculously lucky run.

If these performances keep up then Villa Park will become hell for McLeish because our fans won't tolerate shit like this.

It's already becoming hell for him. Three home games in a row there've been boos because of dull drab performances. And that's from those that turn up...Villa Park has been somewhat emptier so far this season, I'm guessing mainly due to people having to cut out the luxury of football. I can't see those that can afford to go putting up with much more of that. If VP continues to empty, that will impact on income, which the board cannot ignore.

Overlooking Mark Hughes for utterly bullshit reasons is starting to look a very stupid mistake from the board. I don't think we'd be in this mess had we hired him instead.

Not the best evening of entertainment! We were very poor against Newcastle but took it to a new low tonight, which was at least as bad as the home defeats to Sunderland and Wolves last season.
One shot on target (Collins' effort straight at the keeper after 88 minutes) is not good enough. The negative tactics are not good enough. The passing is not good enough. The movement is not good enough.
Things need to improve quickly otherwise we can expect plenty of bore draws plus plenty of losses and very very few wins!

Easily the worst Villa performance in years. What do you expect when you appoint a negative manager who was relegated twice?

He hasn't a clue and won't get a better job, but neither do the Yank owners. Tossers the lot. The attendences are dwindling every single week.

I agree Yoshi. The Yanks don't have a single idea on how to a run a club. That's why they ran to Ferguson and asked him.

They wouldn't appoint Hughes because of the way he resigned, yet they illegally tapped up a manager that was relegated?

The midfield players should be ashamed of themselves for being so shit. I think they are by far the worst in the Premier League and it's no wonder Collins hoofs the ball so much when they never make themselves available. They also seem to lose posession and get beaten by the ball all the damn time. Bent must be thinking what has he got himself into because he's never gonna get alot of the ball this season.

The board are truly the clueless people around. You can't get rid of Young, Downing and NRC without suitable replacements. You can't hire McLeish who has 2 PL relegations and expect him to be a safe replacement. If we go down, then I seriously hope it hits their wallets. It's the least they deserve. Never despised a bunch of incompetent idiots as much as them.

Starting lineup: Given, Hutton, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Petrov, Delph, Ireland, N'Zogbia, Bannan, Agbonlahor.

Let's hope the manager and players respond strongly today after that shambolic display against Bolton.

What a horror show. We're being dominated again with 0 shots target ON and off. **** off McLeish. You're bloody clueless!

I'm starting to agree. This is absolutely dreadful.

From the BBC Live Updates:

1632: Villa are in QPR's half! In possession! In the opponent's half! Oh... nope... not anymore...

Says it all.

The last 5 minutes showed some improvement, but overall that was a ****ing awful first half.
Hetal
25-09-2011
Dear God, that was awful apart from the last 5 mins. McLeish's tactics seem clueless. And our midfield are a joke. Bannan is the best out the bad bunch. Defense is no better. Gonna be a long second half.

More than QPR deserved, they were by far the better team. Should have had 2 pens as well...

Villa are just so dull to watch...

Wilkins saying no pen, nobody was up on their feet, it was the QPR end what do you expect Ray

That's the last game I watch whilst McLeish is in charge. I've got better things to do with my time than watch that crap.

Certainly didn't look like a penalty , though. Must of been a real strong gust of wind that took Aggy down

Oh yes it wasn't a nailed on pen, it was debateable for sure.

It was more Wilkins reasoning that I was laughing at......no reaction from the crowd jumping up - I mean it was the QPR end so that wasn't gunna happen and is not an indication of whether it was or wasnt.
