Hi, got a bit of a problem, not sure what to do about it so I thought I would throw it out to the experts who live here to see if they have any advice.

I have got Sky HD (has taken a long time to get a working box, but finally have something resembling a working solution), however I now have a new problem.

I have an HD Ready Lexsor TV (not sure of the model number off the top of my head) which supports up to 1080i. If I connect HD to it via HDMI at 1080i I get a great picture but after a couple of hours of usage the TV stops responding to the remote and buttons on the TV the only thing I can do is turn the TV off (by switch) and back on, it then works again for a couple of hours until it locks again - by locking I mean the controls, Picture and Sound are fine.

If I change the output from HD to 720p then the TV doesn't lock but occasionally the bottom fifth of the screen drops out of sync with the rest of the picture. It seems that I can either have a great picture but loose control of the TV or an occasional flickering picture and a TV that responds.

I have also tried changing the output from 1080i to 720p when the TV has locked up and the output changes but I get a squashed picture (about 4:3) on the TV with white noise down the right hand side.

I'm guessing that the TV has had it and as it is out of warranty and Lexsor do not seem to respond to any forms of communication I am stuck with a problem TV, but you never know, one of you guys might have the answer.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Trev

So basically, no matter what you do, you have some sort of problem with your TV?
And you really need to ask us what to do?

Bin your TV. And dont buy a cheap one ever again.

Wow thank you for being so helpful.

I have a TV that works great unless it has an HD input in which case I either get a great picture but controls freeze or a problem picture. I am asking if anyone else has had these problems or if anyone knows of any hidden settings that might fix the problem.

But I think I will just take your wonderful advice and bin my £750 investment!!! I'm so glad that people like you exist to help the poor idiots like me!!!

You're welcome!
Sorry dude, just having a bad week. I haven't heard of problems like that, is the TV under warranty? It sounds like there might be a problem with the HDMI connections. Does sky HD have a scart output? What happens if you use that?

Typically, just outside of warranty!!!

HD does have SCART, but would obviously like to avoid that if at all possible as will loose substantial picture quality.

I know, but you might then be able to establish whether its a problem caused by the HDMI connections or just having the TV on for several hours.

Works fine with other inputs so I guess it is just the HDMI input.

Get in touch with where you got the set from, as the set has never worked on HDMI it's probably a manufacturing defect - and may need a modification or a software update?.

I would also suggest you contact trading standards about your legal rights in the matter.

If it was within the first year I would agree, but somehow I doubt Currys will be particularly helpful

Currys are subject to exactly the same legal responsibilities as every other dealer, consult trading standards for advice.

Nice idea, but it has been discontinued (it's over 2 weeks old so it must be obsolete)

how do you know it is the TV and not the Sky box?
If it has a reasonably precise time scale try powering off the Sky box for 5 minutes prior and see what materialises.

Best put up with it I think.

I've had 9 HD boxes, they have all had this problem.
