Subtitles lagging
wilf21

Hi there,

have had v21 installed on my 9200T since it became available. A problem which seems to be getting worse is that the subtitles quite often seem to lag (sometimes very significantly) behind the programme so that the subtitle on display can be a number of sentences behind the actual programme speech. Then, the machine will try to catch up by displaying some of the subsequent subtitles really briefly or in some cases miss out subtitles altogether for a short time. Seems to me that the processor just can't keep up using this version.

Am I the only one suffering from this problem? Is there anything I can do about it, like, for example, would a reset help?

Hi Wilf,

Is this problem on all programmes? For live programmes (e.g. 10 O'clock News) the subtitles often lag behind and then have to catch up because there is a poor person trying to type in the text "on the fly". If you are getting this problem on pre-recorded programmes then it would look like a fault somewhere.

Yes, it's not about live subtitling. It's for programmes like ER and Doctor Who.

Did you just happen to switch the Humax on when encountering this problem, or perhaps changed channel?

As there is a bug with the current build that subtitles seem to be on a delay when the EPG is busy populating, see my original post.

No, it happens when replaying recorded programmes such as ER, Dr Who. Seems to happen much of the time, not just immediately after I've switched on. When this is happening, the box is slow to respond to commands in general, even trying to stop the playback or turn the subtitles off suffers a delay after clicking the remote control.

From what you're describing I also encounter this but only during the first 15mins when I've either switched on the Humax from standby, or if I am switching to a PSB channel for the first time during that switch-on (which results in a quicker EPG populated).

Have you tried a reset on the Default Settings? Plus since the latest Humax software is being broadcast right now, perhaps try going back to an earlier software version and downloading the latest one again?

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Mark - I'll start off by doing a reset and then take it from there.
