In the last weeks I have noticed that I seem to be seeing people wearing more white earphones, but I just assumed they were ipods.

Do all current ipods come with the remote control on the headphone lead now?

Not at all. The brilliance of a device does not guarantee it a market. Take the Tivo, a device 10 years ahead of it's time, still better in lots of ways than modern equivalents, yet it was a complete disaster in the UK marketplace. However, it was so successful in the States that the word Tivo over there is almost generic (as in Hoover). However, the iPhone at least has Apple marketing behind it, so just give it time - particularly when there are many hundreds if not thousands of 3rd party apps shortly (and for those that seem to think it matters, 3G).

I wouldn't disagree with that when you take the iPod in isolation. But for me the iPod experience (as delivered by my iPhone) is all about an end to end experience. Because it is ubiquitous it is much better supported by the world out there. So for example I click on a link on a website on my desktop machine to subscribe to a podcast via iTunes and automatically now I get every episode of the podcast just appearing on my iPhone without worrying about downloading it and having to think about folders etc. Most video conversion software has a button to add to iTunes etc. etc.
Now you may not like the thought of Apple controlling the whole process, but it sure makes everything mindless and easy as far as I am concerned.

So by that argument, the iPod IS the best player by far, as it has 90% of the MP3 market. So you just contradicted yourself really!

I guess it depends where you live, if you go into Manchester or Leeds I see them a lot, as they're cosmopolitan cities and people have money. Go into Barnsley though, and most people are still using 8 year old free PAYG handsets.

No cos that's not a remote control really, its a microphone (with a call answer button), so there's no need for a mic on the ipod.

I agree, but some people prefer delving into the file-systems of their mp3 player, and manually updating their music folder every day before work. Dragging and dropping their Outlook address book onto their phone once a week. Remembering to download new podcasts and dragging and dropping them into folders on their mp3 player before work each day.

Sadists!!

Meanwhile, us iPhone/Pod users are already at the office haha.

Not really no.

When i said everyone i meant everyone who owns such a device. If they were so good no one would choose an alternative.

Most ipods are bought because of trend. Mine was bought years ago because everyone else had one. They sounded bloody awful lol hence why i got rid of mine.

Even now compared to a Zen they sound shit.

1 double click of the device takes me to where i need to be. So no delving for me either.

I did mine quicker than i ever did mine on the ipod. Don't have to wait on the bloat that is itunes booting for a start so thats about 5 songs transfered already lol

Don't use podcasts and i doubt the majority do so that's not important to most people. In fact i don't know anyone who does...

Then i leave for the office and enjoy sound quality that surpasses the ipod Better than a snazzy interface any day which imo is useless anyway being the device is stuck in my pocket 99.999999% of the time.

Well, here's one In my opinion you are missing a treasure trove of timeshifted entertainment. If all I was doing was downloading music then it wouldn't be a big deal either having to manually download, but I download invariably every day e.g. The Archers podcast is updated daily, and other technical ones that I listen to.
In fact I actually never use my iPod for music, don't have much interest in it.

Quick question: What happens when a 100% legit iPhone has completed it's 18 month contract with O2? Will they unlock them or is it legally a brick - (unless you muck about with ziphone etc.) ?
Sananda Maitreya
30-04-2008
it's a brick.

That's a bit cheeky of them surely when they charge so much for the phone don't you think? They are effectively renting it to you! But let you keep the brick as a keepsake LOL

it's very cheeky. of course, we don't know for sure since no-one has yet come to end of the agreements. but they have said nothing about unlocking them at the end.

there is though a poster on here who has been released from his contract early by mutual consent. he has asked that his iphone be unlocked and has been refused.
