dvd recorder and SKY + setup
Im a bit confused on the best setup for a SONY RDR GX350 and SKY+ BOX. from a couple of searches and a read of the instructions, it looks as though this will be the best method of setup, assuiming SKY+ set to RGB output
SKY+ tv scart to DVDR (input) then DVDR (output) to TV via the HDMI cable. Will this mean that the SKY+ (RGB) signal will PASS THROUGH the DVDR even with the DVDR switched off, and suffer no loss of quality. The scenario i am after is to watch SKY channels in the best quality, but also RECORD programs from my SKY+ box in the best quality possible. IS THIS THE BEST METHOD.

If you are going from SCART to HDMI via the DVD you may have problems. Depends on whether the DVD can pass through and convert analogue SCART signals to the digital sigmnal on HDMI. Especially if you put it into standby. It certainly won't do it if you remove power from the DVD completely.
Doesn't the Sky + have HDMI? Not familiar with that box so not sure. if it does then use HDMI to connect to the TV (if it has two HDMI sockets obviously) and use SCART to connect as you suggest to the DVD. That way it doesn't matter if the DVD cannot pass through and convert SCART to HDMI. You can watch the Sky box independently on the TV anyway. Though I seem to recall reading somewhere that Sky boxes with HDMI might not output on SCART at the same time, or was that a Vigin cable box? No doubt someone with more knowledge will be along soon to put me right on this.

Sky+ doesn't have HDMI, so Chris's option isn't available. If the DVDR also has RGB scart out, you could use that method to pass an RGB signal from Sky+ via DVDR to TV. True, you won't get the advantage of the DVDR doing the upscaling and passing the signal via HDMI, but your TV must be able to upscale anyway if it is HD Ready, and hopefully the signal routed through two scart cables connected to RGB capable ports should be little if any worse than a single RGB cable connecting the Sky+ box to the TV.
Alternatively, you could use s-video out from the Sky+ box directly to the TV. I used to do this when I had Sky+ and a DVDR, the picture quality is almost indistinguishable from RGB scart. Much much better than composite scart (VCR scart out on a Sky+ box). |

On page 80 of the manual Line 3 does output RGB however when HDMI connected there is no output of this scart What to do ? It all depends how much recording you actually do from Sky. I would buy a scart splitter that accepts RGB signals and put one to TV and the other to DVD REC http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ce=14&doy=25m4 |
