I want to record the RGB output of my SKY digibox so connected the digibox TV scart to AV2 (RGB) input on DVD recorder then connected AV1 output on DVD recorder to RGB scart on TV. With the DVD recoder in standby the RGB signals pass through to the TV perfectly. Playback of DVDs is also in RGB fine. Problem comes once the DVD is powered up for recording, the RGB signal on AV2 of the DVD recorder is missing the BLUE part of the RGB signal. I can only conclude that the DVD recoder is faulty in some way as the signal path must be complete for the set up to work in standby - mustn't it? Has anybody else seen this before? The interconnects are high quality and I have swapped them out to check its not them causing it. THOMSON DSI4210, Pan DMRES10EB, Pan TX28DK2.

Although one colour missing would usually point to a scart lead not fully inserted correctly somewhere along the line that cant be the case because of the loopthrough working.

Chances are the Panny input/output settings may need adjustment.

Check the inputs and outputs are both set to RGB- ensure the tv system for recording hasnt been changed to NTSC/525 by mistake.

Cant think of anything else it could be

looking at the model 20 eb instead of 10 eb ( as i cant find it ? )

there are several options for AV 2 input

RGB/VIDEO .................... which is supposed to be automatic
RGB
VIDEO
S-VIDEO

put it on RGB

Thats correct but even setting it incorrectly on one of the others should not produce the effect the OP is describing

Thanks - yes if I set the DVD AV2 input to RGB only mode then I can verify that it is getting only RGB from the digibox as if I select PAL output from the digibox then the picture disappears.

Sorry should have said that it doesn't fix the problem. I tried doing a reset of the DVD to shipping condition then carefully going through the set up again but get the same result. Also, the RGB recordings themselves show the same problem with seemingly the Blue element missing. Recordings of composite video and all other functions seem to be fine though. It was a second-hand machine so perhaps I could be cynical and suggest the seller wanted to get shot of it when they discovered the problem?

on page 27 ( I have found manual )

it says if progressive is set to on for transfer if there is any distortion set to AUTO then select VIDEO

also EXT Link settings on page 36 may help

Progressive options can't be set when using RGB (they're greyed out) and I don't have a progressive display unfortunately. I had a similar thought about the EXT Link settings but they don't make a difference to the picture (although they work as intended when the recorder is connected to the VCR scart on the digibox - which worryingly the user manual suggests should be used for RGB recordings).
