I just say that if Cameron does have anything in his background (as opposed to what happened in the BB4 house) and he's putting forward this "Holier than thou attitude" the tabloids will go out of there way to dig and dig until they show the real Cameron... it's the tall poppy syndrome….

In a previous generation in the early 1970's (before I was born I’d like to add) there was a TV personality called Jess Yates, he presented this ITV show called "Stars on Sunday" and there he'd sit in front of his organ (yeah ho ho ho) and read of a few of the many thousands of letters he'd receive each week... "This hymn is for Mary whose bowels has been giving her trouble" that sort of thing....

Jess Yates said at the time....

His nickname was "The Bishop" and he got rerally huge ratings for his show...he put forward this holier than thou family man image, until the tabloids went digging...

He had a secret girlfriend hidden and he eventually left his wife and children (including a young Paula Yates) for a much younger woman...

If Cameron truly has got anything to hide in his background he may live to regret putting forward this holier than thou image...

He's not tee-total but probably knows what can happen when you've had a skinful, prime examples being Ray with the temper tantrums and Steph and Nush who couldn't remember what went on during Leprechaun night. We've all been there, can't remember it and would probably not like to be reminded, unfortunately if you're on national tv it will sure be one of the highlights!

Maybe the reason Cameron kept so much information about himself to himself was that he was concerned that if he told everyone how succesfuly he is in his job, or how many languages he can speak, or how many fish he can sell in a day, is that he didn't want people to think he was bragging?

If Cameron had anything to hide in his background don't you think the papers would have dug it up by now? They have interviewed friends family neighbours & schoolfriends & they have all said he's not putting on an act, he's a nice guy. The worst thing they've said about him is that he can sometimes be boring. Hardly the height of scandal is it!
Yes I read about the Jess Yates/Hughie Green scandal. It was unsavoury but just because ONE religious person who was on TV has a scandalous past doesn't mean they ALL have.

I agree that he did not want to people to think he was bragging. I also think he had enough self-confidence not to need to brag and enough self-awareness not to bore the audience.

Compare and contrast with Jon. One example I will use is the discussion the house mates were having about the aurora borealis (the northern lights).

Cameron, Steph and Ray? were interested in discussing they joy of observing the aurora and what it looks and sounds like. I expect Cameron knows what causes the northern lights, but it was Jon who chipped in with a scientific explanation of what causes the aurora. Jon may have won a few more "Vulcan" supporters but perhaps Cameron wider appreciation of the lights won more votes.

Whichever it was, Cameron beat him yet again, yet still modestly kept quiet about it. Like he did about his language skills, until Jon asked him if he spoke French & Cameron said yes. Perhaps if the housemates had been interested enough in Cameron to ASK him things, he would have told them, but they didn't ask, just talked about themselves.

Is Cameron hoping to become the next Pope?

I dont see anything wrong with Jon explaining the 'science' behind the northern lights. He wasn't showing off, just sharing knowledge. You seem to imply Jon was somehow trying to spoil the others appreciation of natural phenomena. I seem to remember Jon going on to talk about shooting stars.....not in a scientific way, but just finding them enjoyable.

Back to the main topic....A lot of people are suprised by how well travelled, and well healed Cam is. A minority of BB viewers/ voters use the internet/forums. So most only got half the picture regarding Cameron. Listening to LBC this afternoon mention was made of BB and the low voting/viewing figures for the final. One of the people in the studio then said that the prize money should be increased as £70,000 isn't that much. Then it was said "well that's a London perspective, in Orkney it would be a enormous sum and Cameron was no doubt thrilled". The presenter then said that wasn't actually the case. She said she had spoken to cam's mum(on another show)and was really supprised to find out how many countrys he had visited, and that he been to Africa before. That he was quite cosmopolitan, in fact. She said MAYBE it was possible to remain as awestruck by everything as Cameron appeared to be.....but doubted it. She said she felt cheated by Cameron.

I think a lot people will be feeling the same..

But two examples

1/ Cameron doesn't believe in gay marriages...
I'm gay and would like to get married but I can't in this country...
He doesn't respect my right to see things that way...

2/ I drink... sometimes too much...
Cameron looks down his nose at his people that drink, I have friends that don't drink and doesn't make one bit of difference to me; it's their choice...

I respect Cameron to go and read his bible and live his life by the good book, more power to him!, if thart's the way he truly is...

Camerons "modesty" is nothing but an act that brings him forward. It fools obviously many people, but not all. He brings everybody to think: "what an island yokel, oh how honest", besides earning a shitload of money and being successful.

If Cam would be a woman he would have been crucified, booed evicted, hated, marginalised etc. He is a male Nush, less attractive but both have the "peaceful" act on. And both are extremely egotistical personalities.

NO it is filmed at a sunday service you just have to be in church earlier that day.

I hadn't realised from your posts over the last few months that you respected Cameron's point of view, or that of his supporters.

I don't like Cameron particularly but I can see that he had his work cut out for him overcoming the London media types stereotypical perceptions of the backward Orkney boy.

He did actually let slip various things about his work and background but they were glossed over because Ch4 (and by extension the public) just could't cope with the idea that someone could be BOTH an international, high-earning, well-informed businessman and a socially/sexually naive Christian from a northern community.

Cameron's not stupid and neither are his family. I think they knew he would be stereotyped and tried to make it work for him. It would seem that they succeeded magnificently.

Please remember that you must always treat other foum members with respect.

Excellent post..........C4 cast Cameron as naive Orkney lad and Cameron chucked himself body and soul into the role. He did not allow his full character to be revealed. He acted his socks off.....and is deserving of an oscar, but not the £70,000. BB is a reality show....I like to see real people in them, not panto characters.

I should say that I do think Cameron revealed a lot of himself in the house (I disagree with Jon here). - it's more that the evidence was disregarded by Channel 4 because they couldn't get their head around his complexities.

That said, if anyone now feels 'cheated' by finding out that he is a cosmopolitan person, surely their own stereotypes of Scottish and Orcadian people have some hand in that. I did get the impression sometimes that some of the English media would have been surprised to find that Cam's house had running water and an inside toilet.

While we're on the subject, one very weird thing about the final night was Cam and Davina having a wee laugh about the infamous windpipe comment. Where have we got to when that is regarded as a cuteness and a highlight of his time in the house? Maybe in the light of that I shouldn't really be surprised by any of it
