Just another angle on the debate:

As a bible-reading, Church going Christian what would the reaction have been had Cameron said he believed in gay marriage and sex before marriage when the holy gospel, which he keeps by his bedside, preaches to the contrary. Would we not be saying 'he calls himself a devout Christian but doesn't uphold their beliefs.

Apart from that, even if you have Cameron's views, he may apply his beliefs in his lifestyle but he never said that he thought that everyone else should do the same.

If you think I was trying to imply that Jon was "somehow trying to spoil the others appreciation of natural phenomena" you are wrong.

I was trying to imply that, overall, more people may have found his explanation boring rather than interesting. I think he missed a verbal cue from Steph that she was not particularly interested at that time in hearing about the scientific explanation, I think that he missed he was telling Cameron something that he probably already knew, I think that if he had been presenting his explanation as a test in a job interview for a television presenter, school teacher etc, it would be unlikely that he would get the job.

Glad you reminded me about the shooting stars - a main part of the story seemed to be that Jon had seen a lot of them, his friends laying on their backs by the side of him had not seen any. Hmm. Well done Jon!.

I agree with that 100%, although I would also add that another of the stereotypes that some people could not get beyond was his job description of "fish trader". I think that some people could not quite reconcile the fish word with somebody who is educated and intelligent. Now, if he had been a "currency trader" ...

Did it mention the bit where he reveals himself to be a homophobic bigot who believes homosexuality is ruled out by his religion...the one he wants to to be a modern-day evangelist of......

Of course the media are guilty of trying to pidgeon hole Cameron. But the fact that an 'innocent abroad' image was portrayed was as much Camerons doing, as it was C4.

Cameron was not forced to behave like 'Bill Travers' in one of those 1950's films. He didn't have to play the whole wide eyed....thrilled at EVERYTHING Island bumpkin role. He chose to be a certain way in the hse and was fully aware how he would be portrayed.....he did nothing to dispel the naive yokel myth. It was a clever game plan.........

I'm sure no-one would deny that Cameron played a blinder in terms of his gameplan. The 'innocent abroad' approach was crucial. As was establishing his religious credentials, but not overdoing it to alienate voters - so no overt preaching (though it appears that it is this that he wants to do now, as a tv evangelist). Also important was not drinking (or drinking very little), to keep control of himself and his image and point up and exploit the excesses of the others - as it's now been revealed that he drinks outside the house, this was an evident - and very successful - move. Another good move was his policy of staying up until the bitter end (combined with still getting up before most of the others), even when he might have ben imagined to be feeling uncomfortable. He minimised the chances of people talking about him, while allowing himself to control late-night conversation, when there was a minimal audience.

It would have been nice if Cameron had expressed these views in the actual big Brother house.

IMO another factor in his popularity was the I am looking for a wife to settle down with ploy. The find a girlfriend appeal on BBLB helped highlight this and there is nothing more touching to romanticists. Hundreds of women sent in replies to this request and how many others fell for the Orcadian because of this attention of wanting a wife.

Wonder if he will take up any of these offers?

I still can't understand (apart from the fact he thought he might not win if he did) why Cameron didn’t reveal more of his Christian background, where his thinking came from, his Christian experiences and something that is clearly important to him... his church...

I think Cameron being a Christian, would be well aware of the many people in history and up to this day, that have died to speak up for their faith... yet here he is on a reality TV show with a captive audience and we hear very little of it when he's with his fellow HM's, he just kept it for the diary room...

But then some of us may have said then that he was preaching if he had spoken up…

I hope in BB5 they have an “Issues” task early on in the series

That depends entirely on which bit of the Bible you are reading at the time. St Paul had some frightfully repressive views, and as for the Old Testament...!!!!

at no time did cameron say he didn't respect other people's views. the fact that he said he doesn't like to ram his views down other people's throats suggests that actually, although he doesn't agree himself, he perfectly respects your right to your views.
