Actually, thinking about it, you're relying on T-Mobile, Virgin and O2 for one SIM card. ”

What happens say if you port once again from O2 (in this case) to another network?

Does it always remain with two providers or does an additional route get added on? (Like T-Mobile/Virgin -> O2 -> Orange)

I suspect that it'll just remain with two providers (the original number provider and your new provider) but I don't know.. it sounds like it could be highly prone to failures if you ended up with a chain for thre/four providers routing your number.

Three told me that it would go in a chain but I don't know if its true or not.

This is correct. To break the MNP system down into simple terms, you have the ONO and the RNO. The ONO is the network that owns your MSISDN (Mobile number) and will be the one that routes it no matter where you go. The RNO is the network that receives the number.

So say I start on o2 and move to Orange.

o2 will route all your calls / SMS / MMS etc to Orange

Then I move from Orange to 3.

o2 will now route all the calls to 3.

RE: Helix and My3, it looks like there may be a database issue which sometimes happens during the porting process. Hopefully this will get updated sortly and you should be able to use my3 online soon.

Thanks, I'm not to worried about this one as I can still access my3 through Planet 3 to check my usage.

I finally got my number sorted and its back on o2.......hurray!

O2 told me that
1. On original port day there was an issue at Virgin Mobile where all the ports where not ported correctly. Apparently Virgin/TMobile are prone to this issue!!!!

2. O2 then manually resolved the problem on Monday for my number directly with Virgin

3. On Tuesday Virgin tried to correct all the issues it made with the ports from the original port day and messed it up again by not directing my calls to O2

4. Yesterday O2 called Virgin up and asked them what the hell they where playing at etc etc they then done a manual correction together to resolve it.

O2 kept me informed and apologised so much for this mess. They said they where limited in what they could do if Virgin was messing around ports to any networks like this......once finally resolved O2 gave me £20 as top up and 300 free texts (so was pleased at that)

Indirectly related question! I've moved and am getting poor reception on T Mobile here. I'm thinking of changing to provider with better local service and keeping my number. Reading this thread, would this work or would I still just be getting the poor signal from T Mobile? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding.

I'm with Virgin Mobile at the moment. If I was to port my number to O2 for example, would the call be routed:

T-Mobile > Virgin Mobile > O2?

Or would it just be

T-Mobile > O2?

T-Mobile > O2

Sorry to open this thread back up but I'm having this problem. Original number was from Vodafone in 2001, went to O2 and now having problems porting the number to three.

Is it three that need to do the legwork or is there someone at Vodafone/O2 that I can call to try get the calls and texts working?

Thanks!

Might have been better to start your own thread...

Anyway.

Who do you pay money to for your service (it it was working )? Basically whoever takes your cash is responsible for sorting out any issues you have. If you call anyone else they will more than likely tell you politely to go forth and multiply as you are not their customer.

Yeah, as above. The new network you are porting TO always does the "legwork"

Having a similar issue with porting my number from Virgin to 3.

After a week and several calls to 3 I have my virgin number on my 3 phone and can call and text from it but all incoming calls and texts STILL go to the Virgin phone.

Now have to wait another 3 working days to get this sorted (I hope)

Same thing. Moved from Virgin to three today. Calls from 3 network are ok and texts but from landline ot other network just get a solid tone as if number is dead. Will have yo vall 3 in norning bit this os bloody ridiculous.
