I managed to get tickets for this event back in Oct07 through the ballot, at the time we were promised global superstars of music, tickets cost £170 in total for the 2. This event was meant to showcase Liverpool in their culture year.

However, just 6 weeks before the concert I still don't think they have announced any sort of line up, apart from Paul McCartney which we knew anyway!!!

Does anyone have any info on this?? I hope I haven't wasted £170 down the drain on some rubbish event that isn't worth bothering with.

I keep getting annoying emails asking me to upgrade my tickets and pay another £250 each, how can they think that anyone would do this when you don't know who's on the bill!

I have no insider knowledge, but I'd suggest perhaps they are deliberately waiting until they have a complete line-up, so they can publicise it in one go, and get the media coverage resulting from the announcement, rather than doing it piece-meal as each act was/is signed up.

I wouldn't worry about wasting your money. Along with the MTV Europe Music Awards in November, this is one of the highest profile events of Capital of Culture year, and as such I reckon they'll have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure it's an event to remember.

The Zutons let it slip that they are on the bill when on Liverpool's Citytalk radio station last week on Dean "Jimmy Corkhill" Sullivan's show.

So last week they were slagging off Liverpool's Capital of Culture status, and were claiming they had been included on promotional material without being asked. But now they are on the bill for one of the biggest events of the whole cultural calendar? Seems a bit weird to me.

The Kaiser Chiefs have been confirmed today.
Also one international superstar is to be announced shortly - rumours are that its Dave Grohl as Foo Fighters are on tour in UK but not playing that day and hes a big McCartney fan apparently!

from the looks of ebay atm, you'll get at least 5x the face of them, and if u sold them outside the ground on the day, well your lookin at about a grand for the pair, and thats just for the mccartney part of the show, if Dave Grohl or the other rumoured guest (Ringo for a beatles reunion i've heard) does turn up as touted, the skys the limit with the price!!!!!

It's going to be televised on BBC2 & Radio 2, I got an email from Liverpool 08 today about the Kaiser Chiefs, and it mentions the tv & radio at the end of the email.

I got that e-mail too. It's a shame it won't be carried live on TV, only highlights. Even if it was only carried on an interactive stream it wouldn't be too bad. Hopefully BBC Radio 2 will carry full coverage instead so at least people can listen to the whole concert.

A few thoughts -

(1). There could be acts signed up but not announced. (Although admittedly I would have thought they would have been announced by now).

(2). Sir Paul was always the big pull for this event. Perhaps they have decided to have it as Sir Paul plus a few select guests, rather than a large selection of artists?

(3). Linked to (2). Perhaps despite their best efforts they can't get people to sign up? Ultimately you can't force people to play if they don't want to. As such they may have been forced into (2)?

(4). Perhaps they do have big names lined-up but because they want to make the event truly memorable they are deliberately withholding information on them so the first anyone knows is when they step out on stage?

Or perhaps the lack of information is a combination of all of the above?

In reply, I think its a big shame, they have billed this as the big event of 2008 yet it seems a bit of a farce.

I was pulled in by the attraction of seeing Paul McCartney but I see that tickets are still on sale on seetickets.com, yet the event isn't even registering in the top 40 best selling events of the day:

http://www.seetickets.com/see/seetop...2=nav&filler3=

People aren't going to spend £170 on an event without artists, I bet there many many people that agree on that thought, who also paid their money for tickets last October.

Oh well!!

It did sell out, but an extra 4000 tickets were put on sale last week following a health & safety review at Anfield which concluded that the capacity could be increased. These are the tickets which are now on seetickets.

I think the price may be putting people off to be honest, plus even if you can justify the price, 3 weeks isn't really enough time to arrange time off, and perhaps book travel and a hotel (bearing in mind Liverpool is effectively fully booked for the night before and after the gig). It's a shame the safety review could not have concluded earlier, which may have given more time for people to make arrangements. That said, even if it now might not officially be a sell-out, the safety review will have allowed more people to attend, so that can be no bad thing.

Just a heads up to anyone who is interested, The Liverpool Sound concert is currently being broadcast on BBC Radio Merseyside (Listen Online here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainf...rseyside.shtml). The Kaiser Chiefs are currently on stage, with Sir Paul expected on stage at around 9:00pm.

What an amazing concert. I'm really regretting not getting tickets now. Sir Paul's set has already been going on for a good 1hour 30minutes, and he's still performing. A good mix of his older and newer material, with several Beatles classics of course. I really hope it's released on DVD in due course.

After 1hour and 50minutes, Sir Paul's set is finished. It's been a phenomenal night. I think most people knew it would be special, but I think it's easily exceeded that expectation. He seemed to relish every moment of his performance, and was really belting out the hits. The songs performed with Dave Grohl were great, and overall you really can't find fault with the show.

With the Tall Ships, the end of the round the world Clipper Race, and the MTV Europe Music Awards amongst the events still ahead, I look forward to the next seven months of cultural experiences.
