Hi There - I have a Sony MHC-RX77S Hi-Fi system which is many years old and has been working fine until yesterday.

I went to check an old tape, Tape Deck A started making funny noises, and the whole system went into standby mode.

I can live without Tape Deck A, but am now unable to use any other part of the machine; ie radio, cd etc.

When I power the machine on it switches straight to tape, makes funny noises again and then shuts down. I have tried to reset the system and have powered off at the mains but no luck.

Any ideas? As I said I can live without the tape deck, but I don't want to throw the system away when I know the CD and Radio works perfectly. TIA.
