Hello

Is there anyone out there who knows of a music download price comparison tool which makes it possible to identify the cheapest site for downloading a specific track? For example, if I wished to purchase Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads, is there a site where I could type in the track name and artist, which would confirm the prices on all sites from where I could download this track?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Don't think so but maybe you should start one! 7digital is usually the cheapest I find and has one of the biggest catalogues.

i use MSN music, mainly because it's part of Windows Media Player so i don't need to download different programs to listen to my music, plus i pay for their music box thingy.

Downloads are only 75p. But they do seem to randomly delete certain tracks without explantion

You don't understand music downloads very well, do you?

MSN Music is the WORST place to buy music from. It contains something called Digital Rights Management which is meant to avoid piracy, but it screws you the buyer over BIG TIME.

After September, make sure you don't do a reinstall of your computer system, because if you do you will no longer be able to listen to the music you bought from the MSN Store.

Music from different stores WILL play with Windows Media Player if they are in MP3 format. This music format is compatible with every media player under the sun, and it isn't "piracy protected" so it won't expire in whenever...

BerkshireScouse: I was thinking about this two weeks ago, and was wanting to create a search engine in my blog that was scripted to search all the music sites I'm aware of. I don't know how to add html to the search so it searches all listed web addresses though.

All my web search came up with was this example (containing dodgy Russian sites)

But I don't want my engine run by google

I don't use these sites, but doesn't it depend on what bitrate the files are encoded in?

To be honest I tend to avoid them becasue the ones I've heard of seem to use crappy bitrates. Isn't 128kbps commonplace? I know that some have premium areas where you can get 256kbps, but if I'm paying I want something as close to the original as possible on principle.

I use DRM-free, mp3 download sites like Payplay, CDbaby, 7digital, Rough Trade Digital and Play.com. All of the music I've downloaded from those sites have been 320kbps or 192kbps, which is great (you can't get higher mp3 bit rate than 320). I've never bought a download and found it to be 128kbps. 7digital are pretty good because you can login whenever you like and redownload your purchased music, plus they allow you to download it as both mp3 and AAC (iPod format).

Those are among the sites I'd (and I'm sure the original poster) would like to collate into a search engine.

Actually i do understand music downloads But i do see your point.

I actually only use MSN to download the odd single, it's not like i download full albums or anything. Any to be honest, after a couple of months i will rarely listen to that download because either A) i'll have been and bought the album which is really common of me, or B) i've gone off it.

I much perfer physicals singles, so i actually don't download that often, mainly if i'm impatient (like when I downloaded 4 Minutes to bridge the month long gap until the cd single release )

And that is why the whole DRM thing doesn't bother me in the slightest That link was interesting though

Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I found this site: http://purplecompare.com that lets you search amazon, play.com, and iTunes for the cheapest.
