I think the new Clyde PD will have a lot of work to do and the new Forth PD will have to maintain their current position in the market place.

Not sure, perhaps back home. Shame as I was looking forward to seeing him shakeup Clyde.

A great shame if its true.

Duncan is about the only person I can think of that could really sort Clyde out and get it back to where it once was.

He's done a fantastic job at Forth.

It is true and yes he has done a great job at Forth. Sorting out some of the egos and personalities at Clyde is going to need a really good programmer. It can be done though.

Looking at the Rajar results it's obvious that Galaxy has taken listeners and hours from Clyde/Forth One and will probably have also taken some from BBC Radio One also. Another casualty has been Real Radio lately and that could be as a result of yougsters making the switch to something they prefer when previously their parents would have listened to Real. I have seen quite a few parents on the school run with Galaxy on in the car recently.

One other noteworthy indicator is the number of public places now playing Galaxy in the background. I visited two shops in Argyle Street in Glasgow and KFC in Paisley and all were tuned to Galaxy. My last visit to my traditional barbers shop was also a surprise as they have always favoured Clyde 2 and Radio 2 (the staff are mostly over 40s) but they seemed happy with Sacha Brooks that day. I did ask why they had made the switch and they said it was because the music was more suited to clientele.

Think Sacha is the weak link on Galaxy. This has been confirmed to be by some Galaxy fans and a galaxy presenter else where in the UK. I find her really hard to listen to.

Galaxy is also the station of choice at my place of employment. They have a "captive" audience of neds

Just noticed Vanessa Motion has been taken off the Galaxy website. Its now just Des @ Breakfast.

Wonder if this is cost cutting or signs to come for the Capital launch.

Vanessa has confirmed on Twitter that she's no longer on Galaxy.

I hope something comes up for Vanessa soon.

It's always horrible when presenters are "let go" like this.

Any update on this Phillip?

I spoke with a certain someone who is based elsewhere in the Baeur network last week and amazingly he hadn't been approached about the Clyde job.

What are they playing at?!

Vanessa's contract apparently wasn't renewed. See here:

No it's all very quiet although my scottish contacts aren't what they were a few years ago. I know of a couple of people one of them is already in Bauer and I suspect is the same person you're thinking of and i'd have put them in the frame.

It's a tough job to fill though because Clyde has needed a kick up the arse for a very long time and whoever goes into that job will need a thick skin and a solid track record. They'll also head up Bauer's scottish stations and will have to come up with a stratagy to combat the threat from Capital.

I can think of a couple of people who are now consultants but they'd do a great job however they probably make too much working freelance.

OT as it's not about Galaxy, but on the Clyde discussion...

The last time I listened to Clyde was when the armed siege situation was playing out in Glasgow. I wanted to tune in for that as I thought they would have an advantage over Real, which obviously had to go through a wave of Edinburgh traffic jams and had to squeeze more in. My girlfriend's reaction to a switch to Clyde was: "Why do you have to go with the cheap stations?"

There you go, the one word association with the Clyde brand, and another local Bauer station she's put up with in the past - "cheap".

Work urgently required.

So I had Galaxy Scotland on in the car earlier, and at about 17:35 the station seemed to fall off air for about 3-4 mins. The emergency tape kicked in for a couple of tracks, then Garry Spence crashed back on the air - the song he was playing was about half way through, and he came in in about the middle of a tune on the emergency tape.

He then played a few more current tracks, just with Galaxy stings in the middle, before announcing "Ah, I see you're back then!" and just continued the show.

Was the major first technical hitch I've noticed on Galaxy. Usually it's just minor probs like James Barr talking over his own voice on a voicetracked link, or the wrong station ident playing out... Oops!

Maybe some techincal problem?

They are in transition now preparing for the switch to Capital FM.

The output has been pretty smooth and polished for some time but in this transition phase there may be some new gremlins to vanquish.

I think by January the 3rd all will be sorted!

BTW: Des & Jenny seem to have settled in well and are sounding pretty comfy together on breakfast.

I agree! I actually think it took guts to get rid of Vanessa but she really wasn't that bright - and I never really thought she was charming or that funny. More frustratingly annoying.

I actually laugh-out-loud at the 'The Clinic' feature - which is basically Hirsty's 'Anonymous Confessional' tartanised. Some of the audience interaction is good, but not OTT like many of the other commercial stations up here. (ie. no 'phone-in' callers). It's a shame it's on in the 9-10am hour as I'm usually away to work by then.

I also hope James Barr survives the Capitalisation. I find him really funny these days and his 'In the Mix' is the best two hours of the week on the station.

I know wave will protect his beloved galaxy but if this is a thing to come which i think it is then ofcom should be informed for poor programing sadly capital is coming with practicly no local output but which has been said before the nerds and chavs that listen to galaxy/capital whatever they want to be called they dont worry about local output they just want to here their fav song played 20 times a day.How sad radio is getting but galaxy does have some fans i.e wavejock

Get it into perspective, Capital FM will have the same local content as Galaxy has presently.

It's the branding and the source of some of the networked programming that is changing but the quantity of local output remains the same. (The networled shows will still include some local specific links).

Very few in Central Scotland will notice much difference other than the station name change.

Right now Capital FM & Galaxy Scotland are playing the same songs. They must now be using the same playlist at certain times. Timings are almost identical too! It's sounding good!

Same playlist, same music log, same timings, probably same ad structure, too.

They are one, in all but name, now!
