Hi, i need some help as it appears i'm unable to operate simple equipment. I have a sony KDL-40V2500 tv, a sony DAV-DZ230 surround sound and a virgin plus box. I have connected the DAV to my tvs HDMI port 2 and the Virgin plus box to my tvs HDMI port 1. I get surround sound when i play a DVD but want to get surround sound or even just multiple speaker output from my Virgin plus box. Can anybody tell how i need to connect them, what ports and cables?

The Sony has NO inputs apart from a 3.5mm jack on the front according to the spec on the Sony website. Which is a bit on the wrong side of useless really.

Means that you can have surround sound from the DVD and nothing else.

I did spot in the manual/specs that it has 'scart TV audio in'??????

Good old Sony - useless again: however, the OP may be able to use a scart/phono adaptor to feed a line/phono source from the Virgin box to the Sony scart TV in.

Might be worth a try.

To the OP: a MUCH better solution would be to take this unit back and get a seperate AV amp (Sony make reasonable ones) and some speakers - far more connectivity.

Sony have obviously decided that 'home theatre units (AV amps)' will have connectivity and 'home cinema units' will play DVDs and thats yer lot!

Rgds,

Thanks for the responses guys. It looks like i have an optical audio out on the virgin box and a coaxial port on the DAV. will a connection between those two work?? at the moment i have a line going from the headphone jack on the side of my tv to the jack on the front of the DAV which is working but is not an ideal situation!

on page 24 of manual all you need is scart from sony to tv, make sure its fully pinned

to hear whatever is on telly screen selct FUNCTION on sony remote repeately until TV appears on screen

then press SOUND FIELD repeately until you get Pro Logic

thats it I hope and should be

turn down tv sound as well

Unfortunately, this has not worked, i think it may be because the DAV is connected to my tv via the HDMI?! I really can't figure it out. I'm going to try and tinker with the settings on my tv and DAV to see if that is having an affect.

This method relies on the TV being able to send a signal back down the SCART lead. Some do some don't and some only send a signal down one SCART.

And on others you may need to select what gets fed down the SCART.

I had a Sony TV once that was basically a tuner, AV switch and monitor flying in close formation . The options for routing signals between SCARTs were mind bogglng.

But it would be worth trying every SCART on the telly and diving into the menus to see what options there are.
