Verbatim DVD-RW stopped working

I recorded The Matrix Reloaded the other night using my Wharfedale DVD recorder. I was just adding something else to the disc last night when the recorder had problems reading it all of a sudden. Then it wouldn't work, then when it did, it was playing the files as a video list in "File Play"! As "Video.RS" files I think they were called. It only happened on this disc. Can anyone explain why this might've happened, it doesn't usually?

how many times have you recorded on it?
they state around 1000 uses,i find i get 50 to 100 reuses from some dvd rewritables.
Check for finger marks,there are bound to be a few even if you've only used it 10 to 20 times.
