Sorry I havent read all of this thread, but does anyone know if you can still get Bulmers No7 cider? It was not too fizzy, very dry and incredibly strong. I havent drunk it in years, it was only sold in one or two country pubs that I used to frequent.

It's available direct from their website including a rather gorgeous Winter Cider that can be drunk hot or cold. Delicious!!

Didn't realise it was the new name for it.
I don't remember the old organic tasting as nice

Not sure if you would call them artisan brands but I meant bottles from Westons, Henneys, Aspall, Gaymers etc.”

None of those are "Artisan" cider producers.

The supermarkets only sell the mass-produced ciders, you need to go to specialist outlets to find artisan cider producers, or directly to the producers themselves.

Had a couple of bottles last night.

ASDA Extra Special 2012 Vintage 7.3%
Morrisons Organic 2012 Vintagev 6%

The morrisons had a stronger flavour but had a bitter tinge and I preferred the ASDA.

Brothers lemon is now back on the market, should be in the shops soon.

Blimey - this thread is 5 years old.
Someone originally posted:
"Theres a pub in Bristol, called the Coronation Tap. Does a cider called 'Exhibition Cider' 8% Ach...you can only buy in in half pints...Lush, but not had any since my student days"

I was in a pub recently serving a real ale at 8.5% only served by the half.
The barman said to us "There was a chap in here yesterday got ratar$ed on it - he had five pints"!
I'd have thought the point of serving it in halves was to ensure that didn't happen.

Anyway, I still opt for Strongbow traditional in warm weather - all these flavoured fruity Bulmers taste like pop.
And Stella Cidre is not bad - recently £8 for for 8x568ml in Sainsbury's.

Looking through the thread I was going to suggest this. Its the easiest one to get drunk on that isn't expensive and not too disgusting.

I've tried Magners and Cidre and they are about as exciting as Lucozade.

I went through a phase of Brothers Festival Pear Cider, mainly because it was 7 or 8 quid for 12 cans, but they have shrunk from 440 to 330 size.

Magners Original is gorgeous, I can drink that stuff like it's water.

So it's quality that matters?

They are "rebranded" alcopops, not ciders. How can they be called "cider" when their principle ingredient is water?

That is because that is pretty much precisely what it is.... Flavoured water.

However if the Lib-Dems have their way it would be very unlikely either Rekorderlig or Magners would be allowed to call their products "cider"... Lib Dems to wage war on large cider producers

Quote:
““The current requirement to be classed as a cider is for only 35% of the product to be from apple juice. Increasing this requirement (to, say, 75%) would require manufacturers of high volume, low quality product to either significantly increase the quality of what they're making, or pay duty at (considerably higher) wine rates.

“By contrast, those manufacturers already producing cider from actual apples would be unaffected.”

Try it in cans. they're much better than the bottled version imo. Not sure why but it's a lot less sweet and more appley.

i know what you mean. It may not be a 'real cider' a la Sheppy's or Gwynt Y Draig but i still think it's a very nice drink.

i won't pay more than 3 pint bottles for a fiver for it though and ice doesn't get anywhere near it. I just shove the bottles in the freezer for a bit.

Lidl have got their French Duc De Coeur Cider de Normandie in stock here. £1.99 for a 70cl bottle. A very nice medium dry cider.

Tastes to me a bit like Co-Op Tillington Hills or Sheppy's Bullfinch. 4.5% vol but tastes like at least 6% which is handy if you fancy a good drinking session.

Wetherspoons seem to have had a makeover and expanded their drinks list. Also the waitresses have had a uniform change and it looks like they're trying to make the place look classier rather than and old man and student pub.

Anywho..... the one I tried last night was called Angry Orchard.
http://angryorchard.com/

I had the Crisp Apple one (I think. Pretty sure it was the blue bottle).

This may sound stupid but it really tasted like apples It was like drinking apple juice, but not to fear as it is 5%.
