I rarely drink, but love an ice cold glass of cider on a hot summers day.

I was in Iceland for my square sausage yesterday, and looking round saw glass bottles of Kingstone Press Cider. At £1 a bottle I thought I'd give it a go. I really like this! And it says it's dry cider - I hate dry and have always gone for sweet ciders.

But I'm hooked on this one now.

Stowford Press - Only ever seen it in morrisons, £5 or £6 for 4 x 660ml I think

Real smooth, dry.

Ooh a cider thread! I love it. Scrumpy Jack's my favourite and I get four 500ml cans for £3 in the local off-licence.

Just having 4 x 500ml bottles of Gaymers Pear Cider at the mo. Not bad at all. Only 4.5% vol. though. I think cider tastes best at around 7% vol personally.

This reminds me of Magners in that it has a rather weak and watery taste. I normally buy Westons Medium Vintage or Scrumpy.

Magners is bland as hell!

Westons Oak Conditioned medium-dry is superb but the only place I know that sells it is Wetherspoons. Other than that your only option is a case of 12 from the Westons website, at a very reasonable £18. Stowford Press is also a good one, again a Westons cider and available on draught in a select few pubs or bottled from most supermarkets. Wychwood Green Goblin gets a mention, too.

I also like the odd drop of Brothers strawberry, Koppaberg pear/fruits of the forest, and St. Helier pear.

Ooh I forgot to mention, Morrisons "The Best" cider is also very nice, pretty strong at 7 point something percent and it comes in 660ml bottles. Top it all off with the fact it's usually in the 4 for £5 offer and you have yourself a very attractive proposition

Bought some Scrumpy Jack the other day and found it surprisingly pleasant.

The local Costcutter sells a lot of the pear ciders (Kopparberg, St Helier, Maguire's etc) and my favourite is a Finnish one called Upcider. Kopparberg is a bit too "cute" tasting, somehow it doesn't taste like a real drink, but it's nice in moderation.

But isn't Pear Cider actually Perry?

I blummin adore cider (living in Suffolk its Aspalls around here). But alas ... cider hates me.

I had 1/2 pint in the pub about 2yrs ago, and almost immediately a headache started brewing. I was then struck down with the worst hangover I have ever had in my life.

I daren't drink it now. And I adore the taste. I used to drink Scrumpy with my parents when we went to Cornwall in the good old days.

Check out the Morrisons "The Best" oak aged cider while you're there! (although I suspect this message is a bit too late)

PS I am in no way connected with the aforementioned supermarket chain

Perry! The word is perry! A fermented alcoholic drink made from pears is called perry. Cider is made from apples. Nobody would refer to cognac as "grape whisky", would they?

Best cider I have had for years is Wychwood Green Goblin Oak Aged English Cider. Available from Tesco and I think Asda. Try it you won't be dissapointed.
