I wish chains like Bargain Booze would take a punt on the likes of Cornish Rattler, Thatchers and Westons instead of just sticking with the usual Dry Blackthorn/Strongbow/Magners/Bulmers/Merrydown crap.

They've moved from 2007 to 2008 vintage and it now tastes like Strongbow. Very harsh with all the smokiness and subtlety gone.

My favourites are:-

Kopperberg Cider
Chapmans Premium Cider 79p Pint Bottles @ home bargins
Woodpecker Cider

When ever i got shopping I try and go somewhere when there is either a french or german market on and try different kinds of cider to drink.

Yes, Asda have started selling it at £1.30 a bottle. It's better than Westons now I think.

I prefer St Helier to Kopparberg but I'd be happy with either.

Not a fan of any apple ciders I've tried except the kopparberg one, but that just tasted the same as the pear one.

St Helier pear cider is delicious.

I can remember the days when the average off licence only had a choice of Strongbow, Dry Blackthorn or Woodpecker.

Some Sainbury's appear to be stocking a perry by Westons.

tried one the other day.

Mmmmmmmm...........

And there's no such thing as 'pear cider'.

It's perry.

M&S have a few good ones:

Somerset Traditional Cider 5.5% vol by Thatchers. A medium Cider with a very full spicy taste. Very good indeed.

And also a Somerset Vintage Cider 6.6% vol also by Thatchers which I haven't tasted yet but I will review in my next post.

Both are exclusive to M&S.

Note they have a 4 for the price of 3 offer on 500ml Cider bottles so you can get 4 bottles for around £6.

It's decent but not as good as the Traditional 5.5% Cider according to my taste buds.

Recently I have been enjoying Henney's Frome Valley. They have a range of types but they all pack an appley punch. Sounds strange to say that but some so-called artisan ciders are a bit of a let down.

If I'm lucky enough to be in Cornwall I have draught Rattler. If I'm out cycling locally I have Thatchers Gold. (and usually fall off my bike on the ride home.) And if I'm feeling flush when I go shopping I'll treat myself to some Katy.

Mr Saz and I had a gorgeous cider from a pub in Brecon which was served with crushed ice - the ice was added to the drink via the tap. I can't remember what it was called though. It was just the ticket after the waterfall walk we'd just done.

It wasn't this was it?

I've seen a few people on here raving about their Ciders.
