Not sure if a Sky or BT issue...

I am on Sky Talk free package and line rental with BT.

When I try to make a call out, I type the area code, e.g. 01273 and all of a sudden it gives me an engaged tone and I can't key the rest of the number in.

Anyone with ideas?

Does it happen after the second digit is typed? What happens if you call 1471 or 17070?

Seems to be fine now
Was ok when I used another provider, e.g. 18866 and then the telephone number

Would have been a Sky Talk problem.

1280 is the code to place the call back over BT, you could always try that the next time you encounter the problem, or just use 18866 / 1899 / 18185.

Would suggest that what you are getting is 'equipment engaged tone', just means that all the equipment is in use and cannot forward your call, on BT it differs from customer engaged tone two equal length tones, equipment engaged is one long and one short tone......
