DVD Blanks???
Good morning peeps,
Anybody have any views on what I would think is a common problem for most people. I burnt my favourite shows on to blank DVDs. But regardless of how careful I am at storing and handling them they seem to pick up minute scratches, and individual discs decide to freeze and pack up suddenly. My DVD player plays pre-recorded discs perfectly. I know the obvious answer is the blanks are crap, but I bought them from a good computer shop. The discs are "Multispeed super grade A piodata." Is this really a common problem? |

PS> I STILL USE MY VCR. It may be old fashioned but it's still a far better and more reliable piece of kit than DVDs. The picture quality may not be up to much, but it ain't that bad.

Thanks Cobson, I've put them comprehensive links in my inbox and will plough through them later.

I tend to use Sony discs, and haven't had a single problem with them so far. I have also found Maxells to be good.
In a moment of weakness I did once buy a stack of Tesco branded DVD-Rs, which my recorder rejected 3 out of 4 times. Using one of the utilities mentioned in the first article I identified them as UMO discs which it rightly describes as landfill quality. I even wrote to Tesco to let them know but they weren't interested. |

I use Maxell and have had maybe one failure from a spindle of 50.
