Should they give Rachel a new look?

Would it make the viewers warm to her more if she was given a softer image?

I've started to think wardrobe and makeup are deliberately trying to hinder her chances with the audience.

Softer kinder eye liner for a start and less of the hard heavy black khol under her eyes which looks far too severe on TV for someone with large light coloured eyes.

Curly hair seems popular here and how some imagine Nancy, so it would be a good idea if they add some curls to her hair for a warmer curly look.

And stop dressing her like a bumblebee

Well, she used to be a blonde: Click here, then go "The Cast", then "Rachel Tucker - MARY".

Stick to the dark hair, please Rachel.

If they do want her to win and they need viewers to warm to her, they should stage a 'crisis of confidence' and have a VT in which she cries and tells the audience that it's always been her dream to make it in musical theatre and she fears this is her last chance and she doesn't know what she's going to do if she can't make her dreams come true, it will devastate her, blah, blah, blah.

Cynical, I know.

She's too confident, too polished, too perfect. I usually find that in order to really connect with and warm to a person, there needs to be a flaw there. She needs to show her insecurities and her fears.

Agreed. I just find her a bit arrogant to be honest. And the rowing task did her no favours whatsoever...

There was an excellent quote on the review given by The Stage's IDA blog:

"The weekly VT task this week was fitness-based, and saw the girls on rowing machines in the gym before setting out on the river as two teams of four. As we’ve seen before, Rachel talked to the camera as if everyone else was below her. There’s a line between self-confidence and arrogance, and Rachel seems perilously close to using it as a skipping rope. As the final approaches, she needs to watch that if she’s to keep the voting public in hand."
The guy talks a lot of sense.

The rowing task was meant to be testing their stamina and energy levels to see if they had the physical strength to do 8 shows a week.

I thought she came across more like a PE teacher than arrogant - it was the other team who put a bitchy spin on it. Was it Sam who said arrogant? Says more about the losing team tbh.

I thought her arrogant too. She does talk about the competition as if she is the one to be beaten. Personally, although not a fan, I think Jessie was the one in that position up until last week.

Though she does look a healthy weight there, maybe she should eat something.

She reminds me of one of the hobbits played by Dominic Monagahn from the LOTR movie in that picture

i think the hardness is in her face, not her hair or her wardrobe.

I'm afraid dressing her up different would be as effective as giving Mr. Hanky a bow tie to wear. Though I don't think she's as bad as some of the comments on here make out dressing up won't change the problems which make her unlikable.

I think Rachel is quite plastic in her whole approach..........

# Pained look at camera
# Zombie walk across floor
# Out stretch hand
# scary stary to camera

Its as if she is ticking off list in her head as she performes.......she does nothing for me...infact I hit the fast forward button. No warmth in her at all.

Maybe she'll change your mind this week CASPER1066. They said she'd probably be doing a warm soft song. BTW is it more or have they not put up the coaching Nancy's article up this week?

This is what Scott says on The Stage...I agree with him.

Next up, Rachel was given Avril Lavigne’s I’m With You, which she sang wearing what looked like a bizarre maternity dress. Who thinks up these costumes? Performance-wise, it was typical Rachel: start very quiet, building up to a huge booming foghorn at the climax of the song, while waving her arms about to signal to the world that she is Emoting with a capital E. The panel loves it, The Stage’s columnist Zoe (who you can read every Thusrday in print) loves it — but I think it’s overblown pap that doesn’t really sit well on television screens, which could well be her undoing at the later stages of this competition.

She lacks sincerity and genuineness. She is more suited for an adult role or temptress.

If we are scared by her just imagine what kids must feel and this is a kid's muscial. I don't think any of the kid Oliver's have picked her as a favorite. (Sam and Sara have been picked).

I have also noticed in editing that they have shown ALW's facial expressions during her songs and he seem disinterested or perturbed. Which leads me to believe that even ALW doens't like her.

well in the auditions he had second thoughts about her...so maybe his gut is telling him she is not Nancy.........

would you be able to put up a link to that Casper please? I have one but every time I try to find the weekly article I cannot do it, it just gives me a main site to book shows. thanks in advance.

also, the OP and others who are saying she needs to warm to the audience, I know a lot of US feel this way, but she must be warm to a lot of people, because she hasn't been in the bottom after the one time has she?

I think she is getting votes simply because people see her as the professional and the most technically sound with the smallest amount of errors or criticism from the panel.

It's a difficult situation if ALW actually really doesn't like her because, Rachel is obviously pretty talented based on her experience and training. It's pretty hard to say, well you have a good voice and everything but I just don't like you.
