I started this thread on a different site I visit 5 years ago! And it's one that keeps coming back again every few months. So I'd thought I'd try it on here now as well.

Oasis - Wonderwall
Travis - Writing To Reach You
Didn't Travis admit to nicking the chords to Wonderwall for that track? I know the lyrics refer to it ('The radio keeps playin' all the usual, and what's a Wonderwall anyway?')

Here's a notorious example:

Sweet Talkin' Woman ~ Electric Light Orchestra (1978)
Do You Believe In Love ~ Huey Lewis & The News (1982)

...particularly interesting as two years later, HL&TN successfully sued Ray Parker Junior because of the similarities between their I Want A New Drug (issued earlier in 1984) and his Ghostbusters Theme.

2 more

Sleeper - Rameo Me
Geneva - Into The Blue

Boyzone*/Cat Stevens - Father & Son
Aerosmith - Hole In My Soul

*The similarity is more apparent in the Boyzone cover.

New Song - Howard Jones
Salsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel

These songs are very similar. The last Howard Jones gig I went to, it was an acoustic one, he started to play the chords for New Song, but started to sing the lyrics to Salsbury Hill; even he's aware of the similarity and is willing to joke about it - bless..

Hear'Say - Pure & Simple

to both

All Saints - Never Ever
and
Oasis - All Around The World

Take a listen to this Chris Moyles parody here - http://chrismoyles.net/soundvault/pa...on=file&id=969 - it clearly demonstrates the way the Hear'say track perfectly fits the All Saints and Oasis lyrics.

I put the songs I think came first at the top and the similar song at the bottom:

Corey Hart- Sunglasses at night
Miley Cyrus- See You Again

Arctic Monkeys- Certain Romance (The part at 3:52)
The Killers- Shadowplay (The part at 3:08) The Killers obviously got the lyrics from Joy Division but that part at 3:08 wasn't in the original "shadowplay" song but it is in Arctic Monkeys "certain romance" song

The importance of being idle is a 'tribute' to the Kinks' Dead End Street - including the videos!
