Yes, it officially sampled 'You Only Live Twice'. It wasn't 'pinched'.

Not to mention an Elastica song which sounded like the Stranglers' "No More Heroes"

and "Daydreamer" by Menswear was a carbon copy of Wire's "Lowdown", albeit slightly speeded up.

And didn't Oasis get in trouble because "Shakermaker" sounded a bit too much like "I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing"?

And Kurt Cobain was once accused of nicking the riff for 'Teen Spirit' from 'More Than A Feeling' [70s pomp rockers Boston] so at Reading'92 he took the p**s a bit ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynagbWbqAlc

The Stranglers ended up getting a co-writing credit for 'Waking Up' by Elastica, as Wire got the same for 'Connection' - the songs invoked being 'No More Heroes' & 'Three Girl Rhumba' .

He also got accused of nicking the riff for Eighties by Killing Joke

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIeOtrpu2Rw

for Come as you are

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOL5cpwTkes

Killing Joke also sued Nirvana during this phase, alleging that the riff for the latter's song "Come as You Are" was copied from the riff for their song "Eighties". The lawsuit was dropped after the sudden death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

"We are very p***ed off about that, but it's obvious to everyone. We had two separate musicologists' reports saying it was. Our publisher sent their publisher a letter saying it was and they went 'Boo, never heard of ya!', but the hysterical thing about Nirvana saying they'd never heard of us was that they'd already sent us a Christmas card!"

'What a wonderful world' by Louis Armstrong has the same melody as 'Twinkle twinkle little star'.
The notes have a different rhythm but it's definitely the same meoldy.

Think about it...

All of Scouting For Girls songs released so far sound similar to the one before it! Don't get me wrong I ike the band and all of their releases so far, but they sure do all sound pretty similar. Doesn't stop me from liking them though.
