Why did they get rid of that bitchy judge? |

I didn't watch Maria or Joseph so I can't really comment on Zoe, however I really think they need a straight talking judge who gives an honest and constructive opinion. The four judges we have at the moment are far too nice! And Barry is just a waste of time.

[/quote]Zoe had her favourites but she still told them if they didnt sing right.......she did it in a nice way......like when she was feeding back to Ben......she told him she loved hiim to bits but worried about him holding a note on screen.......he cried.......but she told them. She told Lee.......the only time he really got a rock song.....that it was abit rubbish........we need ZOE back |

I found with Zoe as well, that she would make JB be a little more honest as well.

I'd like to see the singing scrutinised more closely, and Zoe would have done that.
Ultimately people go to musicals because they want to hear tuneful songs sung.....er.... tunefully. There is a tendency in this series to convey emotion by screeching and shouting. Whatever anyone thought of Lee and Connie, they could sing. I know the view is that Nancy is supposed to be more rough and streetwise etc, and perhaps therefore a bit louder, but she is still fundamentally a sentimental character (as are most of Dickens' women). |

I have a feeling she was let go, as on Loose Women she kept saying that she was the only judge who could really back up their points (i.e. could show them how she thought it should be sang) and that the others were a bit useless. But who knows.
I think that Barry is a lot more useful than some people are giving him credit for. And as for the pervy thing, if he was 25 and still leching on Sam, why isn't that also pervy? She's a very attractive girl, regardless of the age of her onlookers. |

Maybe that's the problem. HE couldn't manage HER. She was very outspoken, her own woman.

I think her days were numbered when she dared to pick up on a mistake or problem with one of Lee Mead's vocals last series!
Haha I am joking by the way. I LOVED Zoe, an amazing judge and a great character, in the words of John Barrowman Fantastic Fantastic FANTASTIC!! She would have worked the girls a lot harder and not let any of them get away with mistakes! Bring Back Zoe Next Year!! (If there is a show next year!) |

LALW said Jessie's 'Man Who Got Away' was the best performance he had ever heard from a girl her age - someone even said it was better than Judy Garland's version. I also hear the words "world class", "fantastic" etc from very mediocre performances.
It beggars belief.... |

Zoe missed the start because she was helping Geri Haliwell with her vocals on the Return of The Spice Girls Tour.

I think it probably has something to do with BBC/ITV contract colissions. She can't be on a flagship show for both channels, obviously
Who knows why she's not there? I do think the show misses her presence though. |

Perhaps the straight-talking everyone has mentioned is the reason why she is no longer there?
Watching this series I feel far more manipulated than previously and I'd argue that favouritism among the panel is far more obvious. JB and DVO seem as though they would be a lot happier than Zoe to go along with any instruction to back or reject an individual contestant. BH is creepy and lecherous but ultimately harmless - noone takes his opinions very seriously. I'm not saying the show is fixed, more engineered, and maybe the producers knew Zoe would be less likely to go along with that, and too likely to state her own opinions truthfully. Perhaps I'm being a little too cynical? |

I remember reading somewhere that the producers decided to go for a 'all performers' panel this year. Nothing against Zoe, they just wanted to put performers on the panel instead of a mix.

ZT was not bitchy just honest. She knew a lot a bout singing and her comments were always spot on. She is much missed.

I liked Zoe, she gave her honest opinion and at least she wouldn't use the same slogans every week, I'm so bored of hearing JBs "fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!" Does he not know any other adjectives?!
I really don't like Barry, I tune out when he talks because he seems so sleazy and he stumbles over his words. I don't see how the bosses thought that Barry would be bettre than Zoe Zoe would always give an honest opinion, positive criticism and tips/pointers about how to improve someones performance for the next week, I don't think we're always getting that now. She also seemed the judge that the Marias and Josephs respected and wanted to impress, when Zoe liked their performance, they knew they had done a good job. |

It beggars belief.... I miss having someone with technical credentials who can pull people up on being out of tune... regardless of who the character of Nancy is or what she is supposed to be like, as it is a musical, I don't think it's asking much for the actress to be singing the right notes at the right time 99% of the time. |

Hi everyone,
As others have said, Zoe concentrated on critiquing the Marias' and Josephs' vocal performances, as that's her field of expertise. Similarly, in her column in The Stage she tends to concentrate on the vocal performances, although she does occasionally comment on other aspects of their performances. Over the last few weeks, she's been most positive about Rachel, and has expressed concerns about Jodie's vocal range (for example, noting that last week's I Have Nothing was transposed downwards, making her worry). I'm talking with Zoe's agent to see if we can do something online in the run-up to the grand final -- but until then, she'll be in the print edition of The Stage every week. |
