Realistically, she wasn't right for the part!

Along with Jessie and Jodie, Sarah has been one of my firm favourites this series and I've enjoyed pretty much every performance she's given. I also can't help but feel that ALW made the right decision (of course I wanted Rachel to go! ) and that Sarah isn't right for the part. She's just seems too sweet, bubbly and cute for the part IMO, and I can't imagine her doing as good as maybe some of the others in the role.

She was probably one of the best singers and overall performers - but just wasn't Nancy. She reminds me of Daniel Boys from ADWD - who has gone on to have a fantastic career!

I agree - i think she has a wonderful voice and can see her in lots of productions but I just couldn't see her as Nancy. I do think she will have an amazing future though.

Sarah is lovely but not Nancy

I agree, Sarah wasn't right for Nancy, but hopefully she has been noticed now, and will be given a part in something else!

But realistically sam, rachel, niamh and ashley arn't right for the part either. Nor Jessie as she can't sort out the accent thing

I could imagine all of them in the part, except for maybe Niamh.

I was gonna avoid this, but I have to just say Alright, we've done this to death. This will just be filled with Sarah-dislike, or threads saying "Yeahhh, but she'll do well". If you want, I can dig out another thread just like this one from elsewhere on the forum - we don't need 3 different topics on it.

They are simply not good enough for a west end lead.

Maybe she wasn't what the Lord or CM were looking for, but as several people have said, everyone's perception of Nancy is different. I thought she could have done it. But she's obviously not going to be Nancy now, so... Good luck to her in whatever she does next I hope she can emulate the success of past MT talent-search contests. I love her as a performer, what more can I say?

Over&out.

I'm beginning to wonder why a lot of these girls were chosen. Each week we hear that "I just don't see you as Nancy", if that's the case why did the judges and the Lord put them through in the first place? There were hundreds of applicants, so when they're using this as an excuse to get rid of a girl surely they should also be looking at their own casting abilities.

What is so special about the part of Nancy

Like CM and ALW say, everyone has a different perception of Nancy. And anyway, it's called acting. I mean, Kerry Ellis isn't actually green, and the women who have played Eponine aren't really nutty gamines are they?

That said, I can see where the people who can't see Sarah as Nancy are coming from. We aren't shown any acting, so all we have to go on is the live performances, and the songs they are given don't often show them in a very "Nancy-like" light.

Sarah wasn't my favourite for the role but I don't think anyone could deny her ability, and she undoubtedly proves that old adage 'good stuff in small parcels.'

However her place in the sing off can have only 2 explanations - her popularity on DS was not repeated with the public in general, or her supporters were complacent and thought she didn't need the votes. Sadly this meant the exit of a very talented candidate, but I'm sure this isn't the last we've heard of her.

Well said! I refer you to my stereotype thread!

Actually, it's a typecasting thread - not a stereotype thread!

I agree. Sarah is just too Mary Poppins to play a thieving, drunken cockney prostitute. Sarah playing a hooker? C'mon folks. She is very talented I maintain, but even good actors can be miscast eg Russel Crowe in a comedy.

Although it's not the main lead, considering it's a musical theatre part it's a really credible acting multi layered role. It's one of the female MT roles which is quite gritty: prostitution, alcholicism, hints of domestic violence with Bill Sykes etc. High School Musical this isn't!

In my eyes she was the perfect Nancy. She could act up the rough edge and she definately had the heart of gold trait - hence why the Olivers chose her

Sarah was the equivalent of a toasted teacake. She was pleasant, she was flumpy, but I wouldn't particularly see the logic of a toaster in Dickensian London. Or something like that.

I agree Tortue. And so do many others. I was so pleased the Olivers chose her.

I may have been distracted by a longing for the teacake.

Although It should certainly be pointed out for the sake of an unfortunately extended metaphor that I don't want to stuff Sarah in my gob, even if she did have currents in her.
